Thornwood Session 1 : The Ambush At Oscar's Ascent.

General Summary

The party members gathered along with many wagon trains outside Fort Guthrie in the waning days of the winter of 1156. At some point each was approached by Orson Shuable and offered a position working an early wagon train seeking to be the first to make it over the pass for the season. The pay was negotiated at 2sp per day, with Olar and Jo receiving a higher salary of 4sp per day due to their caravan backgrounds.
5 wagons traveled in the train, a first lead by Orson Shuable alone. The second led by Howard Botteger, the third by Sophie Laflan , the fourth by Atticus Stacks , and the fifth by Marcus Gaylor .
The Wagon Train set out from Fort Guthrie on 16 Febilard 1156 CE. They were attacked at at the summit henceforth known Oscar's Ascent on 16 Febilard 1156 CE.
The ambush was well laid. A dozen weakened starving anakim raiders awaited in prepared hiding places where straw mats had been heaped with snow. Two anakim ogres had been illusioned to look like trees until they attack
The initial attack was devastating, two boulders crashed down the mountainside smashing into carts. Atticus Stacks dove clear, but his entire cart and his cattle were driven over the edge lowing in panic as they were dashed down the steep mountain face. The wagon of the Botteger family was not so lucky, the boulder smashed them into rocks along the roadside trapping Isabell Mckeen and Oscar Bottinger inside, mortally wounded.
The anakim raiders came down the hillside to stiff resistance. The player characters as well as Orson Shuable and Sophie and Kitty Laflan quickly dispatched the enemies at the front half of the caravan.

The rear of the caravan did not fare as well. Atticus Stacks was surrounded and mushed into a paste by an ogre's greatclub. His son Eddie Stacks made a futile attack and broke his walking stick but did no damage, and was almost murdered but saved at the last second by a arrow from Sophie Laflan's bow.
At the very back of the caravan Marcus Gaylor fended off the attacks on his families caravan with nothing but a kitchen knife, the untrained commoner managing to kill two anakim raiders (on misses with shock damage). Another civilian bystander was also killed near the back of the caravan.
As the attackers were being mopped up Chester Summers climbed up onto a boulder and gained a brief glimpse of a anakim shaman and several other guards fled the battle which had clearly not gone the way they had hoped.
The enemies vanquished, Chester Summers rushed to give medical aid to the injured. He was able to stabilize Isabell Mckeen but was not able to save Oscar Bottinger , who tragically passed away just before Jo could reach him with magical healing.
The party took a day to recover what they could, redistributing it into space in Orson Shuable 's wagon for easy transport. A brief few words were said to mourn and then set off the last short bit of the journey towards Thornhollow Provisional Camp.
