Xadia Ancients observes the Starsong and accidentally destroys all life in the Universe. Life re-evolves. Rikavi Ancients retreat through the Interdimensional Portal.
The Starsong incident occurred when the Xadia Ancients detected a odd signal being emitted from outside the galaxy cluster. Unable to read it properly, they constructed a massive observatory the size of a planet to isolate and read the signal.
This caused the Lifeform Energy Barrier, the rapidly expanding sphere of energy, to originate where the signal was read. This eventually expanded across the whole galaxy cluster and removed all life from existance.
But no modern faction knows about this of course, not even the HF.
