Rare Suon

Very rarely, due to their very high genetic diversity, suons can take on vastly different appearances. While they are always bioluminescent as luminescence is vital to suon biology, their skin and bioluminescence colours can come in some very rare colours. They have mutations that cause iridescence, make skin look shiny, and rainbow colours. One of the rarest mutations of all is a nearly-pure black skin colour. These individuals have often been discriminated against historically, but many still perceive them as suon. The HF has a culture where people of different species are respected, as they require such a culture to remain stable and united. Even during the unification war, the different suon psychology allows them to integrate better into their respective society than most species would treat different genus and appearances.

Rare suons have also been a scientific anomaly for hundreds of years as many biologists have contributed to the field. It was only after the information era of the unification war, when they obtained the technology to easily modify their own genome, that the cause for these mutations were found. There is a number of pathways within their DNA, which is located in the brain as a single spacetime crystal molecule, which have a very small chance of activating and modify many aspects of the body. The suon genome was designed by the Pyre to be extremely versatile from the beginning. Strangely, many items of Xadia Ancients archaeotech have been known to mutate suon DNA, typically in a positive way, in order to further increase the versatility of the suon populace. Most people are not effected, but those with particularly large exposure times are almost always effected. These genes have been passed down in suon history and although they mostly remain inactive now, they can be rarely activated. Archaeotech very rarely influences a suon's genome in negative ways.

Rare suons are not limited to having different skin appearance and texture. Sometimes, the malleable nature of their genome causes them to mutate significantly, growing more or fewer limbs - or even different limbs. Some have large wings which span from their arms down their torso. These people can be very difficult to clothe, as clothes designed for most suons would likely not fit on one of these suons. This is not to be confused with the air gene however, as the air gene is the only known way for a suon to achieve flight, but large wings gained from rare mutations allow them to glide (unpowered flight vs powered flight). They can have different organ layouts as well, some suons have been known to grow an intestine that is usually vestigial. Some rare suons would have to rely more on echolocation than vision.

Sometimes, rare suons could also have practical uses. For example, black suons could easily camouflage at night because all Tebburus lifeforms are bioluminescent. Some could even be coloured such that predators would be more likely to be afraid of them, but that is rare and did not really drive suon evolution to a significant degree. Due to their rarity, some rare suons could become quite famous. Gliding suons can fill niches that others normally cannot without technology, and echolocation suons can sometimes perceive objects through walls.

Rare suons can sometimes die shortly after or even before birth. These are particularly rare, but happens in instances such as when one is born without some important body part, such as the heart, or born with a body part they cannot support, such as a massive appendage which cannot grow to full size with the finite energy output of the suon digestive system.

There is even a strain of rare suons who can survive in the vacuum of space and on the ground. This dramatically changes all of their organs to acount for this new extreme environment. They have a radiator organ not unlike that of the harkas that only folds out on demand, which allows them to walk on land more easily. They have to accelerate by losing mass, which is obtained through food like in most space harkas. Space rare suons still cannot travel at FTL speed unless in a starship or other similar circumstance.
Even before birth, it is normally quite easy to tell when a person will give birth to a space rare suon because of all these anatomical differences.
