Delta Nixoria
A large galaxy located about 3-4 ly infraplanar of a point located between the territories of the CD and SR. Delta Nixoria has no life other than what is sent there by intergalactic factions. It is an inactive galaxy consisting of about 7.3 quadrillion stars.
Delta Nixoria is best known for being the only galaxy in the Fortrais cluster that has a potentially ancient WMD known as the interstellar zombie nanoplague. This is a massive collection of nanobots that can inject itself in destroyed machines and dead organisms, essentially 'zombifying' them and sending them to destroy other machines and organisms so that the zombie nanoplague can self replicate within them. There are no known countermeasure, as even EMP does not seem to work and little else is known about the nanoplague other than its behavior.
Various factions have attempted to attack and study this galaxy. None of these attempts have ever been successful and the nanoplague is extremely powerful by now. Even HF starships have been taken over, making many other factions very interested in finding a way to neutralise and weaponise it for their own use. However, it has never been observed to leave the Delta Nixoria galaxy, despite having a number of ships with that capability by now. The immense amount of resources that could be found within the Delta Nixoria galaxy are also immense; both factors leading to much interest. Most factions have set up exclusion zones around the galaxy, and only few dare to visit the galaxy. There have been attempts to take the nanoplague out of the Delta Nixoria galaxy to see what would happen. Many thought these acts were foolish as they might destroy all life in those galaxies too, but instead the nanoplague self-destructs outside of the galaxy.
There are many theories about its origins. Some of the most common include some long dead faction experimenting with nanotechnology, inventing the nanoplague and accidentally wiping themselves out, precursors intentionally keeping all younger factions out of the galaxy, or perhaps that it is a very secret HM or HF experiment or weapon. The latter theory leads to many factions blaming their enemies for the nanoplague. While only the 2nd theory can explain why it never leaves the Delta Nixoria galaxy, there is no current accepted theory. It is not known why the precursors would want to keep this galaxy lifeless, the HF has scanned the galaxy thoroughly using tachyon radars from outside the galaxy and have found no objects other than zombified vehicles. It is possible that the first theory is correct but the galaxy confinement program was the result of a mistake; a mistake that would have saved every civilization in Fortrais. There are perhaps many lessons to learn here for every faction.
