Battle of 835

War fought between a large number of gwell, over the host's liver.

The defenders were attacked by offensive forces from the intestine, which is normally the superpower nation of most gwell societies pre - HF first contact. This is because it can support a much larger population as they can easily harvest broken down biomatter.

The offenders started off with a significant artillery bombardment making use of large, catapult-like weapons with a lot of range. These fired mainly large blood cells and the catapults themselves were tied to the 'ground' with large tethers.

The defenders responded by firing counter battery fire but didn't launch an offensive force as they were well dug-in. After a significant bombardment, the offenders launched their offensive campaign. Deploying thousands of soldiers, they were met with a high morale, very well defended force.

The offensive forces lost significantly more casualties than the defenders, which seemed almost unbreakable. However, they pushed through slowly as they simply deployed larger numbers.

Neither side had a clear technological advantage but the offensive side deployed faster, more mobile units with ranged weapons and quick melee weapons but the defenders, with a different doctrine, mostly selected heavy armour for their protection as they didn't need to move as much.

The intestinal nation decided to flank by deploying forces onto other fronts after obtaining access permission from several other nearby nations, getting around the fortifications. This has largely sped up their conquest, although the offensive nation has already lost a lot of casualties. After gwell death, they would often fall towards the center of the host under gravity as their sticking appendages no longer function. Both sides had to contact several organs near the center of mass to find out exact numbers and identity individuals.

Ultimately the war ended with a phyrric victory for the attackers. Although they took over the liver, it could be argued this war was quite useless because contact wasn't made with the HF yet. The gwell didn't understand that it's host would die several hundred years after the war.
