Formalist Union

OVERVIEW

A nondescript, square building near the gates of the city marks the home of the Formalist school of philosophy. Once a lively center of debate within the city, the followers of this school have grown reclusive since they were ousted from power in the polis nearly a decade ago. The Formalists once held most of the power within the polis of Meletis. Over time, the Elpidian way of thinking began to dominate politics which forced most of the Formalists into the shadows. In recent years, the school has taken a stranger turn. Longtime Formalist leader Panelios has become reclusive since his ouster from The Twelve. The Formalist's Union is often locked up for days at a time, and is rarely welcoming to anyone outside of Panelios's closest advisors.

Location Description

Outside

Near the city gates, you come across a nondescript, square building. Its plain exterior, devoid of ornamentation, stands in stark contrast to the vibrant cityscape. This unassuming structure is the home of the once-influential Formalist school of philosophy. The building exudes a sense of isolation and quietude, a far cry from its former liveliness. The muted sounds of the city seem to fall away here, replaced by a hushed stillness. The air is heavy with a sense of contemplation and seclusion, hinting at the introspective nature of those within.

Inside

As you enter the Formalist Union, the atmosphere is one of austere solitude. The interior is sparsely furnished, with only the essentials for study and reflection. The faint scent of old books and ink lingers in the air, a reminder of scholarly pursuits. The silence is almost palpable, broken only by the occasional rustle of paper or a soft, thoughtful murmur. The presence of Panelios and his advisors is felt more than seen, their reclusiveness casting a solemn shadow over the space. The environment is unwelcoming to outsiders, reinforcing the sense of a group that has turned inward, away from the world outside.
