Beretea Beach

OVERVIEW

Beretea beach lies southeast of the city and stretches for miles along the coast. The beach is a place of recreation for young people of all kinds but also a place of work for everyone who washes and dries their clothes here. Sometimes the two tasks are mixed in whole days of festive washing. Some fishermen have their homes here and go fishing from it before returning to the city port to sell their merchandise.   The beach has been the site of unfruitful raids by triton raiders, repulsed by patrols and Meletian tritons, who consider it their duty and right to protect these shores. In the easternmost area there is a wall covering the lowest area between the mountains of the cliff facing the beach. A famous legend speaks of Thassa trying to entice the young men who enjoy the sea by adopting the form of a beautiful woman emerging from it. It is said that the stormy and agitated sea is the cause of the rejection of some proud young man to the goddess.

Location Descriptions

Approaching Beretea Beach

As you head southeast of the city, the sounds and sights of urban life gradually give way to the serene and rhythmic cadence of the sea. The expansive Beretea Beach unfolds before you, stretching for miles along the coast. Its sands, golden and warm underfoot, are a hive of activity. Here, the beach serves as a playground for the youth, a place buzzing with energy and laughter. It's also a place of daily toil, where locals engage in the communal task of washing and drying clothes, often turning this chore into a festive event. The beachfront is dotted with modest homes of fishermen, who set out to sea in the early hours, only to return with their catch, ready to be sold in the city's bustling port.

Entering the beach area

As you step onto the sands of Beretea Beach, the lively atmosphere envelops you. Young people play games, bask in the sun, or splash in the shimmering waters, while others are engrossed in the rhythmic task of washing clothes along the shoreline, their laughter mingling with the sound of the waves. The beach bears marks of its more turbulent history, with signs of past raids by triton raiders, now repelled by vigilant patrols and loyal Meletian tritons. Towards the eastern end of the beach, a wall stands between the mountains and the cliff, a testament to the beach's strategic importance. This area is steeped in local lore, with tales of the goddess Thassa taking the form of a beautiful woman emerging from the sea, her advances spurned by proud young men, an act believed to stir the sea into stormy fury.
