OVERVIEW
Built in the time of the hero kings of the city, the artificial bay that serves as access and defense of the city is one of the greatest and the oldest icons of Meletis. After the resignation of Tyre and Kinaios , the two colossi on either side of its mouth were built in their honor, at the request of the people. On its surface and under the statues a contingent of the Reverent Army keeps watch day and night. The colonnaded temples under each colossus keep large bonfires lit to guide incoming ships. Patrols of city triremes guard the sea with their base in a harbor to the west, within this bay. Two towers lean against the mountains that border the harbor. Tritons who consider themselves citizens of Meletis enjoy the bay as their home, keeping the more dangerous animals away. A large fauna and flora has been created little by little in this space. Despite all the security measures it has not been possible to avoid attacks such as those of the kraken that attacked the Pyrgnos, destroying a large part of it.
Location Description
Approaching the Bay of Kings
As you approach the Bay of Meletis, a magnificent artificial bay crafted during the era of the hero kings, its grandeur and historical significance immediately captivate you. This bay, serving both as a pivotal access point and a defensive stronghold for the city, is among Meletis's oldest and most revered icons.
Flanking the entrance of the bay stand two colossal statues, honoring the revered figures Tyre and Kinaios. These majestic colossi, requested by the people in tribute to their legacy, tower over the bay, creating an awe-inspiring gateway to the city. Under the watchful gaze of these statues, a contingent of the Reverent Army vigilantly patrols, ensuring the bay's safety day and night.
Colonnaded temples situated beneath each colossus burn large bonfires, their flames a guiding light for incoming ships, weaving a sense of ancient tradition with practical navigation. The flickering lights reflect off the waters, casting a warm, inviting glow over the bay.
Inside the Bay of Kings
Within the bay, the presence of city triremes on patrol is a testament to Meletis's maritime strength and vigilance. Their base, located in a harbor to the west within the bay, serves as a strategic point for overseeing the sea and ensuring the security of the city's waters.
Two imposing towers, leaning against the mountains bordering the harbor, provide a strategic vantage point, further fortifying the bay's defenses. The waters of the bay are also home to newts, who consider themselves citizens of Meletis. These newts play a crucial role in maintaining the bay's ecosystem, keeping dangerous creatures at bay and contributing to the rich biodiversity of the area.
The bay is not just a hub of activity and defense but a thriving ecosystem, with a diverse range of flora and fauna that has developed over time, adding to the bay's natural beauty and complexity. However, this idyllic setting is not without its dangers, as evidenced by past attacks like the one from the kraken that wreaked havoc on the Pyrgnos. These incidents serve as stark reminders of the ever-present threats that loom over even the most secure and majestic of cities.
