Theros

Created by

Welcome, Heroes, to Theros. This compendium will act as my repository for all my player to access character creation rules, lore, and homebrew content I intend on using to chronicle their grand adventures as their very own oddyssey unfolds.

Getting Started

Read Haktos' Hero Handbook

Haktos the Unscarred is a legendary hero known all across Theros. He has compiled a handbook for aspiring adventurers so that they may start their own heroic journey. Don't forget to choose your Supernatural Gift, this will distinguish you from other adventurers and help cement your name among the greats.

Select Your God

Once your character is created and their supernatural gift is selected you become a chosen of one of the fifteen gods in the Theran Pantheon. Your devotion to that god is measured in Piety and as that increases your god will grant you new blessings to bolster your strength.

Homebrew

This campaign will be using multiple third party products. Homebrew rules, races, subclasses, feats, and spells will all be available to use. Make sure you look through them to take full advantage of all the resources at your disposal. That being said a lot of it will not be very thoroughly play tested. I'm already intending to be a little lenient with the power scaling on player characters but if something comes off as too unbalanced changes might be made so always stay flexible.

Exploring the Realms

I am Medomai, ageless and deathless, seer of endings:   I did foretell the fall of Alephne in watery terror,   Mocked by the foolish who say that the voice of the gods is but madness.   Great was its ruin, and slaughtered were all who did not heed my warning.   Brighter the future I now foretell, of beginnings, not endings:   Heroes are coming, who strive against fate's stern decrees, and who carve their   Own bright pathway through history, greater than all mortal yearnings.
— Medomai, the Ageless

Medomai

The wise and ancient sphinx, Medomai, is a wandering Oracle and Seer known throughout Theros. In his many years of existence, the sphinx has seen a large number of locations throughout Theros. His findings have been organized into Medomai's Map of the Known World where he catalogs different sites and historical events that took place there.

Medomai's Map of the Know World

The world of Theros, as its inhabitants understand, includes three realms: the mortal world, the divine realm of Nyx, and the Underworld. They are three distinct planes of existence, tucked into their own pocket of the multiverse and shielded from the rest of the cosmos by the power of the gods.

Nyx

Nyx is an endless plane of existence where the powers of potentiality and belief hold sway. It is the realm of the gods, of belief given form, of dreams, and of rising and fading philosophies. From here, the pantheon of Theros watches the mortal world and guides the living. Though the gods live in a veritable paradise, they can't sever themselves from the mortal world. To do so would be to lose the faith of their followers, the source of their magic and a power they will not relinquish.

Mortal Realm

The normal, sunlit world of the living, also known as the mortal realm. The mainland of Theros is somewhere around 40,000 square miles, and the known world is only a small part of a much much larger continent, mostly unexplored. The known world is bounded to the west by the Siren Sea, and the east by the very vast Nistos Forest.

The Underworld

The Underworld is the place of final rewards and endless suffering. Although many believe the Underworld is literally beneath the ground, in truth the plane is distinct from the mortal world, reachable only via magical means, hidden pathways, or by death. The souls of all dead sapient creatures awake on the banks of the Tartyx, where they meet Athreos the River Guide. From there, those capable of paying for his service are ferried to their new home in the Underworld.

Kydele, Chosen of Kruphix

Kydele serves as the primary oracle to Kruphix at his temple in Meletis. Many have sought out her wisdom and knowledge of the universe. Here she has compiled an index of many named characters in Theros as well as miscellaneous knowledge of the Theran lexicon or how they have recorded time throughout the realms.
