Character Creation Guidlines

Starting Level: 10   Available Classes: All   Available Races: Human (Standard, Variant), Catfolk (Leonin, Tabaxi), Minotaur, Satyr, Centaur, Triton, Naga and Tortle. If you like to play another race, please talk to the DM first.   Languages: Make sure that any languages your hero can speak are listed here.   Starting Bonus: Choose +2 Points ASI or 1 Feat or 1 Supernatural Gift.   Revered God: Choose one God of the Pantheon you revere. Read up on your revered god, and understand how to gain or loose Piety. Your starting piety is 10. You may choose no god, but only if you choose the Iconoclast as your Supernatural Gift.   ⚠️ The choice of your revered god and especially the Iconoclast option may lead to an unwanted conflict with other players. Be sure to discuss this choice in session zero.   ⚠️Mogis, God of Slaughter is most likely very difficult to integrate with the rest of the party. Choose with a plan, caution and after talking to your fellow players and the DM.   Home Poleis or Region: Take a look at the Map and read up a little bit about Theros to choose a Hometown or a Region for your character.   Heroic Drive: On Theros, some people simply stand out from others. These are people who decide to take their fate into their own hands. What this means for your character is described here.   Backstory: Here are a few suggestions. Write a backstory appropriate for a level 10 character. Start with your home, but focus mostly on your life as a hero. Mention you revered god, your chosen class. What was the greates foe you have slain or otherwise pacified so far. Did you do that alone or with friends? Mention you ideal and how you lived by this idead so far. You may want to mention any major magic items you own as well. Have they been taken from a beasts lair? Or are they weapons blessed by a god?   Have a Goal: In a high-level campaign (almost) anything can be achived. Think about the mid-term (lvl 15) and long-term (lvl 20) goals of your character. Don't be affraid to think big. You may choose to hide your goals from your fellow players (including the DM), but your goal shouldn't be hostile towards your fellow players. You may develop your long-term goal during the campaign, but it doesn't hurt to have a vague idea already.   Background: You will gain all mechanical benefits from your background, but other than that, your background won't matter much for this campaign. You are level 10 after all!   Starting Gold: 6250 gp   Starting Equipment:
  • A non-flying mount. + riding equipment. Make sure it fits the campaign.
  • (3 common major items + 2 uncommon minor items + 2 uncommon major items)  or (1 rare item (can be your own design) + 2 uncommon minor items)
You can buy any mundane items using your starting gold.   Minor magic items are consumables, bag of holding, driftglobe, alchemy jug, cap of water breathing, cloak of the manta ray, goggles of night, helm of comprehend languages, immovable rod, lantern of revealing, wand of magic detection and wand of secrets.   Major magic items are permanent items not listed above.   (I may upshift or downshift a frew selected items in rarity)   Suggestions if you want to design your own item:
  • The powerlevel of your item should be comparable to official items of the same rarity.
  • If you want, you can add additional features that are inactive at the moment (i.e. it is part of a Set you need to collect, or you need a certain amount of piety). If you do, these features are not counted towards to current powerlevel (but to the point of the game when you expect to unlock them).
  • Make sure to include your personalized item in your backstory.
  • Give your item a unique name and find a cool picture.
  • I need to review your item and may nerf or enhance it.
Info: Most likely, I will remove the resistance to non-magical weapons most monsters have and add one or two specific resistances. This means, you don't have to choose a weapon as your magical item. This is subject to session zero.   Optional: If all players want that and can agree on a location, you can get a Keep or small castle from the Fortresses and Temples Rulebook for the whole party. This needs to be discussed in session Zero though. You may buy any rooms using your spare gold.
