Silrivis

Silrivis is a dwarf planet in the outer core of the Therea Galaxy between Ixion and Paxilion .

Geography

Silrivis has had a turbulent tectonic past. A massive impact of a large asteroid in the southern hemisphere is responsible for today's rather flat surface structure. The volcanoes created by the impact flooded large parts of the planet and smoothed numerous plains with solidifying lava, killing large parts of the former flora and fauna. Toxic rain and ash contaminated the soil for many centuries and it took a long time for life to gradually return.   The once dense deciduous forests are largely petrified and all larger bodies of water, such as the seas, are barely deeper than 300 meters at their deepest point. The impact of the asteroid evaporated much of the water, creating a denser atmosphere. The water that did not evaporate during this was ejected into space and formed a narrow ring of ice crystals around Silrivis.   The gigantic impact crater in the southern hemisphere takes up about one eighth of the total surface and is clearly visible from space. Currently volcanic activity has ceased, and odd poisonous and healing effects have developed in it's living flora and fauna.

Climate

Silrivis is a warm planet with a mild climate, no strong winds nor extreme temperatures buffet the world. "Winter" is a period with a lot of rain and is far too warm to produce snowflakes. Storms can be more severe, but are rarely life-threatening.

Fauna & Flora

Today the plants consist mainly of ferns and mosses, which thrive in the warm environment. There also exists here a rare moss flower with healing properties, but with a high enough dosage can be a hallucionogenic drug. Aside from this, only petrified trees remain to mark where once lush forests stood.   The former poisonous rain has left its mark on the flora and fauna. Almost all native plants are poisonous and some contain hallucinogenic substances that can be processed into powerful drugs and narcotics. But just as they are poisonous, the plants also have great healing powers that need to be researched.   The animal world consists of small mammals and numerous insects and neither the animals nor the vermin are suitable as a source of food because their flesh is considered inedible. However, excavations have shown that before the cataclastic event, there must have been a flourishing fauna with large animals. Numerous fossilized bones prove that there must have been four-legged animals at least the size of horses, and even the avian life in the planet was wiped out.   However the shallow seas are home to numerous edible algae and marine life that can also serve as a source of food and, unlike land creatures, are not poisonous or inedible.

History

Silrivis was discovered and settled during the ‘Empty War’ by a number of refugees from Ixiom, hoping for a life without war and full of peace. During their early days, the new settlers came across ancient ruins of an old technologically advanced civilization and it is suspected that the asteroid impact was responsible for its extinction. It is uncertain whether anyone survived and found their fortune on another planet. Likewise, there is no indication yet of what species they might have been, but there are vague hints of a possible human or human-like culture.   Settlers created the capitol city of Pace, where the ruling theocratic government grew it's roots. Belief in the goddesses was a great support to the settlers in the New World and over time developed into a theocratic society, led by four high priestesses who represent each aspect of the 4 maidens. The people learned to depend on each other for most things in this challenging new home, creating a peaceful and cooperative environment.   The Floanians have only recently arrived on Silrivis and discovered the planet by chance. Their arrival has prompted the four matriarchs to make initial contact with the outside world again, as the arrival of friendly strangers is a sign from the goddesses that peace has come and that the war is finally over. The Floanians' great expertise in botany is a welcome skill for the inhabitants of Silrivis. They have achieved a lot in terms of quality of life over the years, but have currently reached their limits in making the planet more hospitable to life.

Culture

As mentioned, the culture of the inhabitants of Silrivis is very peaceful, highly religious and matriarchal, devoted to the worship of the Ixodel's four goddesses. Because of this, many of the people have grown to be supersticious.   Their religious devotion can also be seen by the women in the planet wearing veils for their heads as a sign of respect for the goddesses, however veils are worn exclusively by women but not every day or in every situation. Overall their clothing is more practical and gloves and sturdy shoes are often seen in fashion. Each part of the year belongs to a goddess and typically the veils are designed differently to suit each goddess. Dark blue with numerous white gemstones for the stars, white with golden discs for the planets, white with embroidered colourful floral patterns for life and plain purple for the darkness of space. Also many Ixodels wear jewelry with the symbols of the four goddesses to signify their devotion.   Regarding diet, its heavily pescatatian as well as relying in plants and mushrooms, seeing how land animals have little meat and may even be poisonous in Silrivis.   When it comes to Interspecies relations, Silrivis has been isolated from the greater galaxy for a long time, and is only now begining to reach out again towards Ixion and others.   Aside from being the capitol, Pace is the only city in Silrivis, and aside from rare hermit scattered across the planet its the main home for almost all of the planet's population. The city is built in an extinct volcanic crater. It was the arrival point on Silrivis.  The city itself is carved into the rocks of the old volcano.    The lack of wood and the initial inability to smelt the ores forced the inhabitants of Silrivis to become stonemasons, which they have mastered to true perfection over the years. The apartments and buildings are lovingly decorated with detailed stonework and adorned with metal inlays. The center and sanctuary of the city is the Cathedral of the Goddesses. It was built from the spaceships that the war refugees used to reach Silrivis.
