Derovann (Deh-Roh-Van)
Derovann are a species of semi aquatic mammalians found in the planet Sendorix, in a system near the rim of the galaxy.
Basic Information
Biological Traits
The species are known for their multiple tentacles that come from their head, these are thick and non-prehensile, meaning they can’t move them at will to grab objects or to make gestures. These tend to have been used in the past to help with swimming, but as it stands today, they only serve to “beautify” the individual. Their skin is very soft, comparable to that of a Nirien or an aquatic mammal without the inherent moisture.
Their coloration can be widely varied from highly saturated blues red and greens to dull or pastel like colors. Pure white has also been known to happen in rare occasions but pure black doesn’t exist among the species, the closest being a dark gray much like the male’s typical coloration. Females of the species also tend to be curvaceous, this might have been an evolutionary advantage from the time they lived underwater, where the body would make stores of fat to keep the temperature stable at low depths. The same may well be said about their sharp teeth, mostly found on males, some females also exhibit sharp shark like teeth. Besides these traits, pointed ears and sometimes sharp fingers or claws also seem to be a staple of the species.
On sexual dimorphism, the species seems to have a strong difference physically between males and females. An example of this, besides their height difference, seems to be their coloration. While females appear in a variety of colors, sometimes sporting darker markings in their body, the males are almost always the same shade of dark gray, sporting vibrant markings in their body that get brighter as they concentrate in the center. Males also sport a set of prominent horns on top of their heads that sway just slightly, maybe in the past they were tentacles like the ones found in the rest of their heads. These horns are meant to intimidate and serve no other function besides this.
Males of the species are also almost always muscular in nature, but this is due to their society rather than a physical adaptation occurring naturally. Males also have the sharp teeth and “claws” trait be much more prominent on them, only a 14% lacking these traits.
Another interesting trait of their biology if their ability to withstand great pressure underwater due to the versatility of their bones and lungs, which expand and contract greatly. This also lets them hold their breath underwater for an hour at the very most. These traits typically make them excellent in any planet where society has spread to occupy the oceans.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Derovann diet is mainly omnivorous, but males prefer meat while females have an overall more balanced diet.

Social Structure
The leader of the males is their King, and is mated with the High Councilor of the females, uniting both sides of the planet.
Some exceptions are done with this parting of society, there are VERY RARE cases, where a female will become a warrior and a male will go towards a scientific path, but these are regulated and very meticulous processes.
The individual must be interviewed by their masters and the King and High Councilor both, only of they deem the individual as a higher asset in their opposite roles, will they be allowed to fulfill their desires, yet this is limited, for example, a female wanting to be a warrior will instead be made an assassin, working from the dark instead of braving battle, and a male wanting to delve in politics or economics will instead be assigned a teaching or researcher role. These members will be assigned guards and go to the opposite side to live and work, (males working in the female capitol and females working in the male kingdoms)
Civilization and Culture
Relationship Ideals
Concerning mating, females are paired with males once they both pass their “coming of age ceremonies” which on the female side pertains to them passing rigorous practical and written tests in their specified fields. Following this, the couple will move in together in a residential district between both male and female “cities” and will be given the choice, once their offspring is old enough to start training, to either stay together or move into their respective cities and separate.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
Society in Sendorix is highly divided between males and females, to the point of them being considered two different cultures entirely. Males and female only share residential districts and that’s only occupied by couples and families raising young children.
Female culture in the planet is highly political and economic. They are typically in charge of record keeping in libraries, dealing with extra-planetary relations, scientific research, technological development, managing the economic balance in the planet and establishing laws. Males only have a very scarce place in female culture, serving as mere representatives of their kind in matters concerning them. The female culture also have a policing force commonly known as the “gold dancers” due to their movements in combat and the typical armor they wear. The ruling figure of female culture is the High Councilor, a figure somewhat deified by the others in the groups.
Male culture in the planet is highly violent and militarized. They are the army of Sendorix and their protectors. Although the male society of a warrior-like one, they do have their doctors, artists and architects, but these individuals must also be trained in the ways of war and fighting, the choice to follow a different path is given to them after their coming of age ceremony.
The ceremony for the males is an arena-like single battle with a prominent figure in their lives, be it their best friend or rival. Commonly known as the trial of Loyalty for males, and the blood trials by females, the battle ends when one of the males is dead. Whether or not the male is fighting his best friend, the death of the warrior is recognized and mourned, his life celebrated and the victor will feel little to no remorse of the kill. This is done to cull out bonds that might threated loyalty and obedience to the warrior clans. Due to this though, young males steer clear of making lasting friendships when young, instead gathering admirers or adoring fans to do their dirty work for them.
Lasting brotherhood friendships almost exclusively happen after the ceremony takes place. After victory, the male is assigned a female and once in their residence, generally the female will tend to his wounds.
Due to the high social pressure in males in their childhood and their reluctance to make friends, interactions with a woman to be their mate for the first time vary greatly, from mistreatment to adoration. Females can choose not to be with the male any longer and their request is quickly processed by the female councils and they are removed if they feel unsafe with the male.
Concerning color dimorphism in the species, albinism and hyperpigmentation are found extremely rarely among them, but they aren’t as rare as with Kanoran. Typical albinos will be a more creamy color, if they have markings they will be a darker shade of cream and their eyelashes would be snow white, as for hyperpigmented, their sclera would typically be very dark as well as their skin, but their eyes would almost always be of a vibrant shade.
Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals
Same gender relationships are also taken with care, they must prove to a group of judges of their gender that their combined efforts will be more useful than the bringing of life into the world. This is rarely a difficult process and most of these couples are approved and assigned a residence inside the city.
Common Myths and Legends
Both males and females are Atheists, not believing in any god but it is not rare for them to adopt religion if they were to travel since they are drawn to the concept due to their planet not having anything of the sort.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Derovann are proud to a fault as well as patriotic, due to this they are a rare sight to see in any other worlds except for a handful of members that do not comply with the strong division in their planet. Most times these travelers are more curious to learn about how other cultures live and will travel to the inner parts of the galaxy.
Lifespan
Derovann live from 200-300 years old, though their bodies require certain care and maintenance to reach this far.
Average Height
They are about the same height with humans, although the males are generally taller, going from 6 to 7 feet when fully adult.
