Kippira, the Frozen Wildes

The southernmost continent, officially named Rozireth but most often referred to simply as the Frozen Wildes or the Wildeland, contains a collection of periphery settlements known as Wilde Posts, intermittently strewn along the coasts of the continent. The majority of the Wildeland is a massive expanse of icy tundra and menacing mountain scape occupied by fearsome beasts. Of the nearly 2 million square miles (about 5,180,000 square km) of land, less than 100 square miles (about 260 square km) are inhabited. With populations in the low thousands, Wilde Posts generally fluctuate between 60% - 80% permanent residents and 20% - 40% transient residents. The largest and most notable Wilde Post is Kippira, on the eastern shore of the Wildeland.    Constructed in the third century of the Second Age, Kippira now occupies the whole of the Doloman Peninsula - the landmass which marks the easternmost point of the continent. The peninsula, and Kippira by extent, is the last accessible stopping point for vessels and sailors making the journey across the Southern Divide.    Though officially a territory of Mardonia, Kippira, like most posts, is primarily occupied and maintained by Wilders, natives of the land. These people groups are said to trace their heritage back to the early centuries of the First Age. Though each tribe tells a specific myth variation concerning the creation of their people, they all share the common feature of being derived or evolved from notable winter beasts - great wolves, arctic bears, snow foxes, and the like. These myths have given rise to rumors that many Wilders are in fact were-people, able to adopt animals forms.    Regardless of any potential shapeshifting abilities, Kippiran Wilders are respected as the lifeblood of the post. They make up nearly 100% of the permanent residents, and are granted special citizenship of Mardonia as well as transit cards to many other kingdoms (though most Wilders never venture to the mainland). Many Kippiran families have lived in and cared for the town for generations. As experts of the land, the Wilders are able to hunt wild beasts, fish below the ice, and harvest certain roots that grow in snowbanks at the foot of the mountain ranges. These resources help sustain the small local population, and, perhaps more importantly, are used to trade with and restock vessels from other mainland kingdoms, which in turn bring provisions that the Kippirans cannot produce themselves.
