The Aether

Pre-Cascade

At the beginning of time the universe was one, filled with brilliant stars, overflowing with magic, but devoid of life. Then Etheria used her power to separate the universe into two, the real universe and the Aether. The Aether and the real universe were originally exact opposites, the real universe filled with stars & planets, while the Aether was filled with life & magic. In the Aether there were the Aetherborn who could shape the mana into cities and buildings. While the mana could also be formed into cities, it could also be formed into life. This life that came from the mana of the Aether became increasingly vicious, tearing the veil from the Aether and escaping into the real world, devouring the stars. In attempt to repair the damage done to the real world and the veil Etheria used the last of her power to give the veil a will. That will is to ensure the prosperity of life. To solve the situation of the Eldritch beings devouring the stars and destroying the Aetherborn civilization the veil collapsed in on itself and unfolded. Creating the Great Cascade, the real universe was filled with life and new stars were formed. Magic still sometimes escapes into the universe.

Post-Cascade

After the Great Cascade the only life in the Aether have been the Eldritch monsters formed from the pure mana. These monster slowly gained more power the longer the existed in the Aether, the oldest are known as The Old Ones. In the Aether the veil kept most of the beings at bay with little mana being able to flow through the veil. Sometimes the veil would knot itself when the Aether was almost compromised, on the other side in the real universe this formed a veil core, the power source for mana factories. The veil core in Afidorei was completely destroyed and on the other side the knot completely came undone an old one tore the thin veil almost escaping into the real universe. To stop the complete destruction of the real universe the veil folded itself cutting the old one in half, leaving part of it in the real universe and the rest in the Aether. This was The Second Cascade, mana flowed in the real universe but the veil was weaker. Smaller ones from the Aether now pierce the veil on occasion once every decade the mana in the real universe is enhance by the moon, causing it to turn blue and weakening the veil even more. The Aether is now a grey monotone place devoid of sound with the beings there trying to escape.
