Tutoring Psychology?

I have a dependency on a piece of knowledge about psychology that I've just discovered I do not know. I have a setting where fertility rates are VERY low while lifespans are VERY long. Many of the settled areas in the setting have no children around, and even where children are born they have few peers. I believe that people can be playful and that playing can survive in such circumstances, perhaps because I was myself a deeply introverted child who sought the company of my elders rather than my peers. Yet there is a piece of psychology that I do not have: What is the psychology of children who learn primarily by tutoring?
My own childhood introversion is not a sufficient model. I need to know more about this in order to fully develop my setting, particularly as I have developed a few youthful characters of importance and I have a region whose population I intend to eventually expand.
