Spellwasting

What is Spellwasting?

Spellwasting is The Price of Necromancy. Necromantic spells have a 50/50 chance of inflicting a spellwasting, which is a subtle injury that makes its caster weak, slow, and/or just plain fragile until it heals. Bigger spells inflict more serious spellwastings. Minor spellwastings heal in a few days. Major spellwastings heal in a few weeks and may kill the necromancer when inflicted.

Although spellwastings seem to heal eventually, they're notoriously cumulative. Old living necromancers have aches and pains all over from spells that didn't quite heal, and most undead necromancers actually died not from big spells, but from poorly healed spellwastings that rotted out their vital organs over time.

Necromantic spells that don't inflict spellwasting inflict Serenity Drain instead.

Necromancers who no longer have a geomantic interface (aka ghosts) are immune to spellwasting and get half their necromantic spells free! Of course, ghosts can't use geomancy at all.
