A world that once flourished with magic, in the era of the Old Lords. Dragons and gods coexisted with mankind. There is no record of the events that led to the war that ended this era. Tales of this time vary greatly from culture to culture, reduced to myth and legend, but all concur on the apocalyptic event known today as the Ending Winter, when nearly all the magic in the world was lost, the gods betrayed, and dragons driven from the world.   Ages have passed, and the races of mankind have matured, grown into civilizations spanning the continents of Granvael and Singraix, using both what little magic remained after the Ending Winter and their own ingenuity. However, vestiges of the forgotten world remain, whispering promises of power to those enticed to journey in search for them, though many never return.   For some time, a hushed dread has been growing across the land. Animals are changing into destructive, chaotic beasts. Strange storms appear to alter the landscape, turn populations to stone and disappear just as bizarrely. Mundane magics used in everyday life become corrupted and run wild. These events and others like them all seem to point to a chilling inevitability:   The lost magic is returning to the world, and no one is ready.
