Krovian Ethnicity in Thelekar | World Anvil

Krovian

New to the North

The Krovian Elves are new to Tysha, suddenly appearing sometime after the Sundering of Eaglecrest. Many are refugees of the Battle of Strey, while others claim to have been born within Krovhurst Village, a new settlement not yet absorbed by the Kingdom of Tysha like the rest of the land in the Valley of Kings. At first they were misidentified as drow from the underdark, but this was proven false by Rushalan scholars who defended the new group. Then, rumor from the south of the Krovian's common demonym reached Tysha: Blood Elves.

Aliens

The grand city of Strey appeared in the Voletarian Mountains during the Second Age, atop Icewater Lake. It was not created by a legion of laborers, nor raised via magical spell. Arcanists have confirmed the Weave around the city is warped slightly by conjuration magic- the entire city was teleported into Thelekar from another Prime Material known as Draymor. Pontiff Elvira, the city's leader at the time, had become frustrated with the nations surrounding her territory. They ventured too far into her mountains, claimed the Blood God Dessriel as one of their own, and ignored her sovereign status as Dessriel's chosen mouthpiece. However, she was tired- the past several centuries had been nonstop war for Strey, as they choked the life out of the southern jungles and rained blood upon the griffon riders to the east. She simply wanted a hundred years to herself, and for her people as well. And so, she gathered the Red Priestesses and her Church Zealots and began painting a crimson arcane circle around the entire city. It, and the mountain it was built upon, simply vanished from Draymor and landed to the northwest of Voletaria itself. Though they are elves, they are technically aliens to Thelekar and are often reminded of that status by those in the scholarly community. Krovians who have left the theocracy of Strey such as Count Mordred's court or small exoduses to the elven homeland to the south have faced a variety of roadblocks to their acceptance into society, but groups such as the Rushal of Tysha and the Atlan Court of Cremmevia have welcomed them with open arms.

Blood Elves

Thanks to their ties with the Blood Goddess Dessriel, Krovians have an affinity for Hemomancy, the study of Blood Magic. Arcane advancements into this rare school of magic have made it more accessible to the rest of the world, but none are more skilled with it than Krovians. Perhaps it is the centuries of immersion in Blood Arts that make it so easy, or the fact that Krovians have never learned to treat it with such distaste like other mages; regardless, the greatest strides in advancing this new magic are being made by independent Krovian scholars. Blood Arcana is now being considered at the Tadrin Academy, and word is spreading of its capability for healing as well, rather than simple killing. It is making the same strides that necromancy once did centuries ago, and soon the demonym of "Blood Elf" will no longer be an insult, but a sign of respect.
