Waypians

When nature turned on humanity it sent billions of people flocking to the megaplexs of the world. This exodus and the brutal and savage world that nature was evolving into should have been the end of small towns, however some resilient individuals stuck around and found ways to survive the ever-changing world around them. Over time the decedents of these individuals formed small hamlets that outsiders call Waypoints.   Living at a waypoint is much different that living in the mega-cities, most Waypians homes are ever changing and often are modified monthly to fit into the ever growing and changing Wyld. Homes are crafted from remnants of the old buildings, some new lumber is crafted when usable dead fall can be found. Whatever the case all waypoints have one thing in common they use what is around their community to build their homes and no two homes ever look remotely alike.   Feeding the community is a community effort but also one that can leave a family starving. Most Waypians are vegetarian, not by choice but by necessity. The Wylding of the world has set man back in the food chain, and we are not the apex predator, and while in mass the hamlet might be able to take down a Bisoflo, the cultivation of meat like humanity had before the Wylding happened has been able to be reproduced without the animals evolving within a generation to uncontrollable beasts. With the growing of crops other conditions have to be taken into account, especially cross-pollination. Each family within a Waypoint grows a specific kind of vegetable, and only that kind. Since the Wylding took place plants have been able sometimes to cross pollinate with other breeds creating odd, sometimes deadly varieties.   On the Bluatsday, the 10th day of the week, the Waypoint's families get together and trade and barter for crops and goods at the center square. All trades must be done through the general stores owner or Grandlier. The Grandlier acts as an escrow account and claims 5% of each trade to help stock the store so goods are available through the store through out the week for residents to come claim or trade to those outsiders that find their way through. It is important to note that money has no value within the Waypoint culture, although sometimes the Grandlier might have a little for outsiders whom seam to think it is important for survival.   There are not celebration days at a Waypoint, although you will find that most people there are lively and full of joy. There are two main holidays they do celibate. The new year under the blood moon, also called Valuzzia is a sign of the ending of winter and the coming of spring is always a cause of celebration just as the rest of the world. At a waypoint this usually celebrated with a feast and the opening of the first drafts of the aged ale from the previous harvest. This is also when the recognize the coming of age of individuals and count how old someone is and each waypoint has its own traditions and customs.   The second is a mid-summer celebration of Aaliuvia. This is a huge celebration and sometimes attract outsiders, it is customary for waypoints to gift outsiders when they arrive for this event, as well as the outsiders to gift back when they leave. The reasons for these celebrations started to help keep diversity in genetics within the families, often encouraging daughters to get pregnant from outsiders. Today that practice is not encouraged although sometimes families will seek outsiders if desperate enough.
