The Temple of the Art

The Art is sacred, but not something intended by this second world. It must be sheltered and sustained outside of their light and influence.
~ Sixth Tenet of the Emerald Tablet of the Order
Located on the outer stretch of the Astral Plane bordering Limbo lies a massive temple, shrouded by the foggy astral winds. This place was once the abode of the Order of the Art, the ancient innovators of Arcane Alchemy and the forefront of combining the studies of magic and alchemy into one, but now it is simply an alchemy lab that has gone unused for centuries.

History

The history of the Temple of the Art and the Order of the Art as a whole is shrouded in uncertainty. What is known is that after Arcane Alchemy was unearthed by the founder of the Order and some of his closest colleagues, this structure was created as a base of operations. However, these ruins that appear to be in immaculate shape raise a number of unsettling questions. If the potential of Arcane Alchemy was so great, what caused the Order to disappear so suddenly and quietly? Was it because something went wrong, or because something went very, very right? Perhaps the Finite races will never learn the truth of the Order of the Art.

Points of interest

The Temple is filled to the brim with both magical and alchemical curiosities. Rows of labs and record rooms lie in the upper levels, completely untouched by time as if those who were once researching there simply vanished one day. In the lower levels, it is clear that some sort of calamity occurred. Among the maze of rubble and debris are pools of many-colored alchemical substances, bubbling, frothing. It is even said by some that the ghosts of the great alchemists and magicians are still there in the reflections of those dangerous pools...

Architecture

As per the name, The Temple of the Art has an almost religious aura to it, with large stone statues of the great masters of Arcane Alchemy cut into alcoves in the perfectly preserved stone walls of the upper levels.
