The Shifting Sands

The Shifting Sands is one of the four echo planes of the Material Plane in The Wraith Globe, and probably the second most dangerous. This plane is a sea of sand dunes with constant gusts of wind in every direction and at every angle. Many structures, objects, monuments, and the like are buried beneath the sand, and the wind constantly reveals and hides these structures. Many an unwary traveler has been lost to The Shifting Sands, being swallowed up by the never ending change that is this echo plane. Entrance to this plane can be found primarily in The Material Plane, but are also common in Limbo's calmer patches, as both of these planes have constant change and chaos in common. Places of constant change, such as a hall of nobles, where power and official titles are constantly shifting among figures. The opposite of this echo plane is the Cubical Wastes, a realm of twisting rectangular labyrinths that will stand until the very end of time.

Geography

The Shifting Sands is completely made up of an endless desert, constantly changing shape with the flow of the wind. Some say that the ruins found in the Shifting Sands were once a great empire, and this echo-plane was once a majestic metropolis. However, the only way to find out if this were true were to be to completely empty the Shifting Sands of sand, which has never been attempted, only conceived. Some of the structures that can be found in The Shifting Sands also eerily mirror places in The Material Plane, but the reason for this remains utterly unknown.

Fauna & Flora

The surface of The Shifting Sands is absolutely void of life. However, there are pockets of air underneath the sand, formed by dungeon rooms, passages, and other structures. Some monsters, especially oozes, live and barely survive here.
