The Drynn
Inhabitants of the moon Driwynn.
These humanoids are one of the most prolific species in the Gilnares System, living anywhere they can talk their way into the Drynn are an ambitious and diplomatic race who uses technology to make up for their lack of magical strength. Part of their proliferation was the Union of Gilnares, a nation that rose in power and conquered the world of Driwynn before moving beyond and uniting the rest of the Gilnares system by sword and by pen.
Drynn are magically null, they have difficulty grasping the weave of magic even in the most ideal of circumstances. This aspect would be interesting in a vacuum but the existence of Drynnwa, elementally aspected and magically capable Drynn that can be born from any Drynn, has made the history of the species rife with racialized violence and radicalization of either group across the ages.
In the current era, Drynn live at dubious peace with the Drynnwa as a holdover from the Union of Gilnares though the dissolution of that Union also shattered any unity that the nations of Driwynn might have held.
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Drynn are a relatively hairless primate species with two arms, legs and standing upright. In their past they may have been semi-arboreal but they have been out of the trees so to speak for millions of years before their sentience became apparent.
Genetics and Reproduction
Drynn reproduce sexually with a 9 month gestation period.
Growth Rate & Stages
This species is considered physically mature between the ages of 16 and 22, the sexual dimorphism in the species pushing females towards maturity faster than males though neither is culturally considered an adult in most Drynnish cultures until the age of 18.
Ecology and Habitats
The Drynn are a terrestrial species but the more aquatic nature of their world leads your average Drynn to often be a great swimmer. They are used to wet, humid heat and thrive there but are easily able to adapt to nearly any ecosystem.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Drynn are omnivores, they eat a lot of fish and ocean plants due to the size of their worlds oceans.
Behaviour
Drynn are relatively neutral in their general disposition. Their fractured and often disparate cultures lead to a wide array of different psychological profiles and behavioral norms, only exasperated further by the almost violent rejection of the enforced norms of the Union of Gilnares.
There are some common points to be observed however. Drynn tend towards cooperation and diplomacy as they are a generally communal species.
Additional Information
Social Structure
The Union of Gilnares enforced a flat, merit based hierarchal structure across the entirety of its holdings and the first place that was enforced was on the Drynn homeworld.
Before this, the cultural norms of the nearly 300 distinct nations and thousands of ethnic groups across Driwynn clashed and melded to create a chaotic legion of different social structure and norms. Though the Dissolution has not quite removed the enforced social structure of 350 years of the Union of Gilnares, the social norms are starting to fracture into varied groups along old cultural lines again.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Drynn live across the entire breadth of their world, Driwynn and in many other places in the Gilnares System. They are a common sight nearly everywhere.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Drynn are magically null and have difficulty manifesting any magic though they are also resistant to magic and its effects.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Naming traditions are entirely based on core cultural norms, depending on where the Drynn was born and raised. This holds true even across the system with Drynn several generations away from their initial culture often taking local names or following local traditions.
Major Organizations
The Union of Gilnares (In Exile)
The Union of Gilnares (Shion Inheritance Corporation)
Beauty Ideals
Entirely based on the myriad cultures on Driwynn or where the Drynn was born off world, they are very mutable. This holds true for Gender Ideals, Courtship Ideals and their preferred relationship dynamics.
Average Technological Level
The Drynn have a high level of non-magical technological advancements in the realms of space exploration, cybernetics, metallurgy
Major Language Groups and Dialects
U-lang is the most common language on the world, derived from an older trading language it is the de facto standard language across the world. In recent years there has been an increased interest in reviving older, cultural languages that had been unofficially suppressed during the founding of the the Union of Gilnares and officially ignored during its rule.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
Drynn get along well with any species they meet, in a vacuum. Since the Dissolution of the Union of Gilnares the Drynn have been considered in a more negative light by some due to their creation of and the defense of the Union as well as the darker aspects of that government that began to come to light during the wars of the Dissolution.
The added chaos of Drynn corporations inheriting vast portions of the Union infrastructure and operating in the general system with much regard for native inhabitants has done nothing to salve the hurt left over from centuries of sometimes dubious rule.
At face value most Drynn are accepted as just another group of people in the sometimes crowded tapestry that is the Gilnares system but nuances and frictions exist due to the inescapable march of history and the weight of the past that few can ignore only 20 years after the Dissolution.

Drynn off Driwynn
These creatures get along well off-world, being highly adaptable through willpower or technology they have spread far and wide across old Union Space, in part due to them being the primary movers and creators of the recently defunct Union of Gilnares. Millions of Drynn moved off-world to manage the bureaucracy of the Union of Gilnares as well as its military infrastructure and after the Dissolution, most of them stayed in place...those that survived.Drynn in the Union of Gilnares
The Drynn were the creators, managers and de facto rulers of the Union of Gilnares and were its strongest supporters. The dissolution however did not only exist offworld and the true death-knell of the Union was whenever the old nations of Driwynn began to declare independence and withdraw from the union, adding to the overall chaos and ultimately breaking the Unions will to continue fighting the Dissolution.Remove these ads.
