Hobgoblins

Amongst the various creatures that are considered part of the "Greenskin" cultures, Hobgoblins are perhaps the most human-looking. They are often slightly taller than Humans, averaging around 6 and a half feet and weighing around 200 pounds. This height is enhanced by their muscular forms, although this seems to be more designed for dexterity rather than strength. Their skin colour is general warmer, being found in oranges, reds and browns. Pointed ears and flatter, simpler faces are a trait shared by most Hobgoblins, as well as small tusks found on the lower jaw. Hair colours seldom vary, and most Hobgoblins will have black hair. Males may also have facial hair in the form of thick beards.

Unlike their smaller cousins the Goblins, Hobgoblins mature at much the same rate as Humans. They also live for about the same amount of time. They do share the same affinity for seeing in the dark as Goblins, and are more than capable of traversing at night or other dark areas of the world. With their history as part of Greenskin Culture, Hobgoblins seldom like to appear weak, and will attempt to hide any perceived weakness from their allies. This seems to be something all Hobgoblins share, leading many to theorise that this is a genetic memory learnt over generations of dealing with the rugged climates Hobgoblins often find themselves living in.

Origins of the Hobgoblins

As followers of the Greenskin Religion, The Great Tribe, Hobgoblins believe that it was the great God Gruumsh who created them. It is said in that first moment, when all the Greenskins were created, another of the Gods whispered a single blessing. This was Ilneval, and with this whisper he parted a sense of order and wisdom in to some of the Greenskins, which resulted in changing them to the first of the Hobgoblins. How true this story is has been left to interpretation. However, archaeological digs and ancient artefacts have pointed to Hobgoblins existing in the The Orcish Tribelands alongside the other Greenskin races for thousands of years.

Finding Hobgoblins in the World of Varda

The greatest population of Hobgoblins can be found in The Orcish Tribelands, living in Clans alongside other Greenskins. However, small groups of Hobgoblins can be found throughout the lands, often sticking to wilderness in small communities. These smaller Clans are often much more abrasive to other species and cultures, and have presented problems far and wide. They do often make formidable mercenary companies, and employment in the rougher regions of the world is always easy to find. Some locations you may find Hobgoblins are:
