The Sapphire Ocean

A vast expanse of rolling waves separates the continents of Astiria and Vastalia, known as The Sapphire Ocean. Covering approximately 100 million km², this ocean is the second largest found on the world of Varda. To the South-West of the ocean is the sub-continent of the Calidian Islands. The northern areas of the Ocean are found in the polar regions of the world, and meet the great northern ice sheet that covers the pole. Stretching south to the equator of Varda, the climate changes to a tropical one. These diverse climates and temperatures result in great currents that sweep across the globe, effecting the weather conditions in many different regions.

Species and Life

The Sapphire Ocean is home to a vast majority of wildlife, which range in diversity throughout the many different climates. Fish, crabs, whales, sharks, turtles - all of these creatures can be found in great variety in the water. Other, more dangerous creatures are also found in the ocean, such as Mermaids, Merrow and Sahuagin. Legends and tales are also told of larger creatures inhabiting the ocean, such as Dragon Turtles and Kraken', but little evidence has been bought forth to prove the existence of such creatures.

Countries and Trade Routes

Several countries are found around The Sapphire Ocean, with trade routes being located between them via fleets of ships. Most notably amongst these fleets is the Highwater Shipping Company of The Kingdom of Arden, who have set up a great trade network that ranges across the waters.
