Southdale
The City of Southdale if located in the Dalarn Lowlands, close to the Northern border that is shared with the Province of Telmar. Larger than most settlements found within Arden, it is the home to knowledge and learning, and many academics come from all across the Kingdom to study and better their skills.
Surrounded by farmland to support the City, Southdale also sits upon the Laynher River. To the west of the City, and almost running up to its walls, lies the Stephal Forest. Hills to the east of the city showing the end of the Minydenn Mountains shelter the city from the Wood Elven lands. It is perhaps these joint reasons, with the abundance of resources, that Southdale is one of the oldest settlements in all of Arden.
Being the beacon of learning for Arden, several insituations can be found within Southdale for various Learnings. Some of the oldest buildings, surviving after nearly a thousand years, have been dedicated to these purposes. The most reverred of these is the Arcane Library itself, which is home to the organisation known as The Arcane Enclave. On the west side of the City, outside the walls, many attend the Southdale Society of Magic. Found to the north-east of the City, within the walls, is The Academy, a place for higher-learning in various topics.

Government
Despite being the legal lands of the House of Rivers, the running of Southdale is left to an elected body of individuals. These are all selected from the various Academic organisations found within Southdale, and are responsible for maintaining the day-to-day runnings of the City. However, the Council's jurisdiction ends when it comes to the laws of the land, and this is set and dictated by the current ruling Baron/Baroness.
