Niaiwin (Naj-win)

Written by BiggoDM

Niaiwin is a river that reaches from the Aladale Peaks down to the northern part of the sea of Immortal Waves. The Niaiwin river splits into two streams 30 miles after the small fishing town, Silebat. The Niaiwin length is 315 miles down the western stream and 527 miles long through the southern stream. There are 2 larger towns, Nasuwa and Qadakus, and a smaller town, Silebat and the capital of Krathulum, Tashaq.

Geography

At the Aladale Peaks, the Niaiwin is surrounded by high rock formations. The beaches contain more pebbles and smaller rocks than sand. The mountain peaks around the start of Niaiwin comprise a huge waterfall made of glacier water from the vast glacier, Kirgate Glacier. Few miles away from the waterfall you'll reach the village, Silebat. The town is located at the northern shores of Niaiwin, where the flora is the richest. Four miles up the stream, the river water starts to be freshwater. Around the town is smaller dunes surrounding the village. If you stand on the highest dune, you can see the height of the Aladale Peaks, and on a clear day, you could get a glimpse of the waterfall. The splitting of the river is called the Serpent winds. Here, the wind starts to pick up at a high pace. It is where the merchant ships usually use their sails rather using paddles.   Around 230 miles south of the Serpent Winds is the town Qadakus. The surrounding area consists of larger dunes that reach up to 22 feet. The fauna consists of larger palm trees and Krath-palm trees. Standing on the top of the highest tower, you could see the huge dune sea that stretched as far as the eye could see.   If you follow the western stream at the Serpents Winds, you'll reach first the town Nasuwa , which lies 64 miles away from where the rivers colid. The city's dunes are more significant than the northern dunes but smaller than the southern dunes. But here is where you take the ferry over the river to the small trail you take to the capital of Krathulum.   Further down the western stream of the river, 164 miles south of the Nasuwa, you get to the capital, Tashaq. The capital is surrounded by flatter dune hills and is located at the northern outtake of the Golden Serpent eye. The desert sand surrounding the capital has a similar colour to snow.

Ecosystem

The ecosystem is crucial to the cycles it has. It has a lot of wildlife, from mammals to oviparity (egg-laying) animals. The flora has significant use for the nature around the river banks, both for land and water creatures.   The fauna kingdom is ruled by a hierarchy system consisting of an alpha species. The smaller creatures are essential to the larger animals that feed on them, same as for the smaller animals who hunt the insects that are breeding when it starts to cool down during the colder months. When the larger animals overfeed on the lesser creature, they begin to die due to the decrease of smaller animals that they can feed on. The smaller creature can breed and begin to repopulate and increase their population through this. This will go around and around.   The flora has importance for the fauna and those who live in nearby settlements. So the closer you get to the river banks, the more vegetation you'll see. The foliage is essential to the smaller creatures when the breeding season comes. The insects eat the nectar from the flower, bring seeds from them, and sometimes drop some when the winds are a bit rougher. This makes the flora expand and grow at a rapid pace. Even critters, when they search for food and take seeds and dig them down to have later and forget where they put them, also helps the palm trees to increase in numbers.    The settlements uses the river to fish and uses the freshwater to make farms along the riverbeds.

Ecosystem Cycles

There are 3 cycles along the river and all of Krathulum. But the river seasons are essential for most aquatic creatures. During the cold season, most fishes migrate to the waterfall to breed and increase their population. The larger creatures start to hunt other animals to sustain their need for food until the fish migration is done and they start to return. Also, the small village to the north usually starts their fishing season at the next start of the mild season.    During the mild season, most farmlands have grown due to the increase in the water level when the glacier starts to melt in the north. The farmers also use the fresh waters to stock up until the last and harsh season of them all, the dry season. By stocking up the water, they have a more significant chance of surviving the drought. The wildlife will also make it more southward, closer to Tashaq or up to the northern country of Osweodal, the west to the kingdom of Guanobluff or the southeast to the dynasty of Phoqeolon.    During the drought, the settlers start to decrease working to minimize their food and water intake. As a result, most aquatic beasts begin to move to more of the deeper parts of the river; due to that, the water level decreases. Also the weather starts getting rougher

Localized Phenomena

During the dry season, it'll be really harsh on the river Niaiwin. The sandstorms that are very primarily harsh start to dry up a lot of farmland and start to push a ton of sand down into the Niaiwin. Also when during the mild season the water level can sometime be to overwhelming and starts floods in the Silebat village, and have a huge impact on their farmlands.

Natural Resources

The river itself has essential resources for the natives who live by it during the dry seasons and the mild mount for their survival. They use the fresh water to sustain the farmland where they farm sugarcane, Krath-Palm trees and wheat. They also use fresh water for drinking, especially during the dry season when low water levels.   They also have a lot of edible fish and are very exotic for travellers from afar. Most fish species can't get caught that live in the Niaiwin and is a native species to this river.   The Krath-Palm tree grows fruit that is excellent to do beverage mixes with the cold freshwater that the river provides. In addition, the river itself offers pearls from freshwater clams. The pearls are as clear as a light-blue sky and are essential for the natives when they trade with other nations.   THe wildlife fauna such as Red scarab-lily, Blue Frog Leaf and Snail smokers are also important for the trade in Krathulum.

History

The river has been around for 2000 years. Before the Niaiwin excited, there was only a tiny stream from the Immortal Waves. But the demigods started to migrate worldwide, and the god of the Sun Teses moved close to the Aladale peaks. He made the climate even warmer the glaciers started to melt rapidly. The water that came down from the mountains began to rush through the small valley and created the river known today as Niaiwin.

Tourism

People around the world seek to go on a tour on the river from the capital up to the waterfall at the mountain. This has an huge impact on the economy for all the settlements that are on the rivers, even if Qadakus is not on the way up towards the waterfall, you can take a ferry from the Tashaq to Qadakus.     You also be able to experience the fauna that lives in the river and the flora that grows on the land. This will also attract alchemists and doctors to find herbs for their proffasions.

Nicely written. Some good worldbuilding done with thinking about the cycles and ecosystem. I there any reason as to why the river actually splits?
