High Elven Realm of Lothrimir

Near the top the world, hidden for several thousand years within the Kybar's Teeth Mountains, the High Elves of Lothrimir waited out the world around them. Protected in their high mountain alpine valleys by powerful magics they nervously watched the world for generations as they slowly rebuilt their lives and kingdom.

The High Mountain Realm

Lothrimir is the most Eastern, most mountainous of the elven realms, and is among the largest, and oldest surviving High Elven Kingdom. It is among the fairest of the elf lands, where majestic snow-capped mountains tower over sweeping coniferous forest and flower-strewn alpine valleys. The entire realm resides in the high mountains, nestled in alpine valleys and the Tor'Phenal Plateau. Its valley's experience deep, cold winters, and warm pleasant summers; often mitigated by magical protective powers. Many a wandering traveller has found their path to the kingdom cut off by a small freak avalanche to deter their continued advance. Although most of the realm does see summer each year, Lothrimir is home to the Glade of Eternal Winter, which sees winter all year round.

A Hardy Folk

Its people are a great and hardy mountain folk, and some joke that they have more in common with Wood Elves than they do their High Elven brethren. They are oft considered "simple" by other High Elven lands for they put more time into what they view are practical skills, than do their more “civilized” kin. Their appearance is also considered more “barbaric” to other High elves; for scars, ritual tattoos and the wearing furs alongside their armour is commonplace. It is also more common for elves from Lothrimir to have white hair, and much paler skin than others; but still makes up the minority. But let this not fool any; they maintain their cultural history, powerful magics, marshal prowess and accompanying otherworldly knowledge, flair and dress. Lothrimir is governed by a strong hereditary monarchy under the present rule of King Tharhindrel II, with a ruling council of nobles and magi from the capital of Shal’andris. They see themselves as the last real bastion of strength in the high elven people, and strive to build the power of the military, and will go to extremes to keep their realm safe.

Connected to the Mountains

Much of the Kingdom's wealth stems from the mountains themselves; ore for metalworks, timber for construction and art, furs for winter wear, medicinal herbs to cure the sick, and marble for regal artifices. Shunning the most elaborate architecture, Lothrimir’s cities are built to survive the deep snow of winter. Elegant stone and timber hunting lodges dot the land; and the capital city of Shal'Andris is built with shorter wider towers than the grand spindle spires of their cousins. Due in both parts to their mountain homes, and craftsmanship; the elves of Lothrimir maintain a much closer relationship with the Dwarven Kingdoms than that of many of their Kin. Its people are also connected to the wildlife. It is not uncommon for hunters, rangers, and other folk to befriend animals such as wolves, bears, white lions, great eagles, etc. and form a lifetime bond; another facet not normally seen among high elves.

Threats

Being high in the mountains, Lothrimir does still face numerous threats, though most come from wandering Tribes of Orcs, Goliath, or Minotaurs; feral beasts which wander the mountains, giants or dragons. The Blighted Lands also presents an omnipresent threat as all manner of foul creature and energies radiant from there. The primary defences of Lothrimir are its extensive force of rangers and shadow hunters, which can most often deal or divert a problem far from their borders before their arrival. Lothrimir is also believe to be the only Elven realm still to be able to field a small number of Drake Riders; a far cry from the former glories of the Dragon Knights of old, but still terrifying to behold on the battlefield.
