The Wardens

The Wardens of the South, also known as the Southern Hunters are a group of lawmen and women who operate under the sole authority of the Queen of The Floating City. They answer only to the Matriarch and cannot be held to any laws or rules by the lesser nobles. Any attack on a Warden is seen as a direct attack against the Monarchy and the full strength and power of the royalty is brought to bear to make an example of offender. The last time a Warden was killed by the populace, 271 people died in an event called The Purge of Seca; after a drunken brawl turned deadly against one inebriated Warden. There was no excuse accepted and the village was erased under powerful magics, which no man, woman, child or beast was spared. The buildings were burned and the foundations crushed within days as an example to all.

As an organization, the Wardens patrol the wilds north of the Floating City to The Riverrift. These patrols are overseen by a Senior Warden assigned to a particular region who themselves oversee junior Wardens as they see fit. A wardens outpost is typically near, but not next to a civilization center.

Composition

Manpower

The Wardens are led by a council of seven Senior Wardens, each overseeing thirty Wardens themselves in their outpost along with miscellaneous local personnel such as cooks, blacksmiths, etc. The Senior Warden has complete autonomy for their assigned region and personnel.

Wardens have extensive training and even the newest Warden are typically 5-7th level, while senior Wardens can rise to 12-15th level in strength. Their historical strength is not unwarranted.

Equipment

A typical outpost is a stone sided keep with an internal courtyard. Each warden is typically outfitted for two week patrols and go in pairs. Wardens are allowed to carry their preference of weapon and armor paid for by the Matriarch. Most Wardens show preference to light weapons and armor for movement and maneuverability.
