Palace of the Bane Lords
Known as the dark lands for those who have returned from its borders. Encompassing the main valley of the realm is The Starving Army. This alone is the greatest defense against possible invaders and interlopers as those that awaken its interest quickly become a part of it, further expanding its power. It has never been known to leave the boundary mountains of the realm; but if called upon an army of tens of thousands of undead would be called upon.
The city-capital of the realm is known as the Palace of the Bane Lords, built into the side of Kyöpelinvuori, the dormant volcano on the northern side of the valley. The Palace was created as a haven to intelligent undead, thier servants and their interests. To address the challenges of the cold realm and to provide sustenance for the diverse undead populace, The Withered One initiated monumental engineering projects. Deep tunnels were burrowed into the earth, delving so far that the digging zombies were lost to lava flows. These tunnels connected to a network of dungeons, ensuring a habitable environment for the undead. To counter the biting cold of the mountain, vents and channels were meticulously crafted to allow heat to permeate the structures. The resident mummy lord, Iyebkhentre, played a crucial role in insulating the tunnels with sand, slowing the loss of precious warmth. The ingenuity extended to inns and taverns, where vents and sand-strewn tunnels ensured controlled temperatures, and snow-filled saunas became a luxury for the living. Sustainable solutions were devised for the undead's dietary requirements. Traders were dispatched to neighboring cities, striking deals for crops in exchange for the valuable resources extracted from Kyöpelinvuori's depths. Criminals and malefactors, marked for death, became a peculiar currency for the undead. The Palace of the Bane Lord traded stone, metals, and materials for the condemned, ensuring a steady influx of fresh blood, souls, and bodies. A legal system emerged as bounty hunters and adventurers brought criminals to the temples for final judgment. The process involved magical questioning until the verdict was reached, determining the ultimate fate of the condemned. The undead community, diverse in its composition, embraced fashion and identity, with thousands of masks and enchanted jewelry creating a vibrant tapestry in the tomb city. As time unfurled within the icy walls of the Palace of the Bane Lord, The Withered One's legacy endured. Temples rose to honor the faiths that coexisted peacefully with the undead residents. Libraries of arcane knowledge flourished, and professions dedicated to preserving the undead emerged.
