Arcane Purge
A powerful and dangerous spell, Arcane Purge allows the caster to rid themselves of the heaviest burdens of magical debt, often at great cost. Channeling raw arcane energy, the caster purges their connection to dark forces, removing cursed magic, lingering debts, and even the very essence of arcane bargains that bind them to supernatural powers. However, the spell takes a toll on the caster’s own magical reserves, leaving them momentarily weakened.
Effect
The caster releases a surge of purging magic in a 60-foot radius centered on themselves. All creatures, objects, and areas within the radius that are affected by the caster’s magical debt or have absorbed magical energy from the caster (such as magical bonds, curses, debts, or dark pacts) are cleansed of these magical ties.
Debt Removal: The caster’s magical debt is reduced by 50%, or by a greater percentage at the Dungeon Master’s discretion, depending on the severity of the debt.
Cursed Effects: Any curse tied to magical debt, such as penalties to abilities, lost power, or lingering magical corruption, is fully removed.
Excessive Purging: If the caster has no magical debt to remove, the spell instead removes all magical effects (buffs, debuffs, spells, or enchantments) within the radius, potentially rendering allies temporarily vulnerable to harm.
Cost to the Caster: The caster suffers one level of exhaustion for each 10% of magical debt purged. For example, if the spell purges 60% of the caster's debt, they gain 6 levels of exhaustion (which may require DM discretion).
Otherworldly Price: After casting this spell, the caster must spend 1d4 days in seclusion to recover, and they may not cast any spells higher than 5th level during this time.
At Higher Levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 8th level or higher, the radius of the purge increases by 10 feet for each slot level above 7th, and the percentage of magical debt removed increases by 5% for each slot level above 7th.
Note: This spell is most effective when the caster is in a place where magical energy is particularly concentrated, such as near a magical artifact, ley line, or nexus. The caster must have a deep understanding of the debt they owe, as this spell also forces them to confront and relinquish powerful magical connections.
