Citizen Identification

Purpose

The document serves as identification for traveling and voting.

Document Structure

Caveats

The document is to be replaced every ten years. If you switch cities, get married, or have any household changes, you must get the item edited at the noble house.

Publication Status

Every noble house, and many Priories, can make, update, or copy your Citizen ID. The ID itself is private and should not be given to anyone outside your family, except for government officials and as proof of voter access.

Legal status

In the country of Ta'il, carrying your personal ID (one of the three sections included in the citizen ID) is required at all times. It details whether you're a visitor or a citizen and can inform others of your health needs/requirements. Neglecting to update the document(s) could land you a fine, which is set based on your family income.

Historical Details

History

With the establishment of the new mainland kingdom of Ta'il, there were many challenges with ensuring that the leaders listened to their people first. At first, all of the nobles would represent their towns to the queens, but soldiers discovered that the nobles were not always honest with the boons granted by the crown. So, it became necessary to create a system that held the nobles accountable for their citizens. Eventually, they established the Council of Nobles, which was elected by the popular vote of the citizens (noble or otherwise). The papers were designed to keep track of adults who were eligible to vote: anyone older than 19, who had lived in the given city for at least one year prior to voting, as a means of keeping voting honest.

Public Reaction

It took a long time for the citizens and nobles to get accustomed to the new Identification papers. With the promise of better leadership practices, soldiers and officials would go from house to house, ensuring that they contained the required documents.

Term

The document int its most basic form has lasted for over 300 years. However, the government alters the design and specific aspects of it every decade or so.
