The Unknown Bard's Tales: Pride and Progress
Inspired by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Crime and Punishment
Excerpts from the book Pride and Progress
In my dreams, I have found that pain and suffering are always inevitable for these large intelligences and a deep heart. I think pain has left a great sadness on Terra.
This sadness condemned the whole world to a terrible new, strange plague.
Soon all were to be destroyed except a very few chosen.
Soon, the men left in the world had considered themselves so intellectual and so completely in possession of the truth, never had they considered their decisions, their scientific conclusions, their moral convictions so infallible.
They lose the ability to agree and judge what was evil and good; they did not know whom to blame, whom to justify.
These men started to kill each other in a sort of senseless spite.
They gathered together in armies against one another, but even on the march the armies would begin attacking each other, the ranks would be broken, and the soldiers would fall on each other, stabbing and cutting, biting and devouring each other.
They accused one another, fought and killed each other. There were conflagrations and famine.
All men and all things were involved in again destruction.
Until nothing was left.
We climb the mountains and rode on clouds to the heavens. Every day brought the sky closer... and the unforgiving, burning sun...
