The Shadowfell

Dull, desolate, drab. Grey, grim, glum. Solemn, silent, serene...oh, so serene...

-(REDACTED)
One of the two secondary planes that mirror Azovar on the "Material plane." It is a bewildering land teeming with dangerous, shadow-touched creatures, treacherous terrain, and an ever-present insidious curse.

Pale Image

The Shadowfell is a culmination of all that is bleak, embodying a landscape rife with despair. Myths of the somber realm compare the "dreadlands" to the Material plane in almost every way; it mirrors Azovar, though one shattered beyond recognition. It's so thoroughly devoid of "life" that even colors fail to permeate the shaded lands and anything that calls it home.

Tainted Presence

In due time, all non-natives of the twilight plane succumb to the Shadowfell's natural deconsecration, sapped completely of their emotions. Those who succumb to the plane's curse are reduced to hollows of their former self, mercy compared to the several horrid effects wrought by the land. Natives and travelers alike report overwhelming sensations of paranoia, individuals citing the feeling of always being watched. Their instincts are always correct.

"Divine" Intervention

The truth of the dreadlands, written centuries ago in countless academic texts, was lost during the Holy Praetoria's earlier anti-magic crusades. Though as real as the Material plane itself, the Shadowfell is now nothing more than a mythical commonality to countless horror stories told across Azovar.
