The Great Incursion
"The Eyes report the anomaly is moving north towards the peoples capital of Varian." "How long until he takes the city?" "Well, we can't say for sure. The anomaly can show up at any moment he pleases...there's also more to the report." "Yes?" "He is soulweaving the dead...to kill them again. Repeatedly." "Such a drab use. Yet, interesting, nonetheless. Why do you think he's doing that?" "...because he enjoys it." "I see...send out the call." "Should we warn the peoples?" "..." "Understood. May Asgorath guide us."A pivotal moment in Azovar's history occurred when Chronepsis, a black greatwyrm, sought to annihilate all living beings on the continent of Varian. Though less brutal than the Skyscourge and Elemental Wars of the same era, the Great Incursion is widely regarded as the most significant event of the Age of Conflict, shaping a dark future for Azovar.
Maledict
For five years, Chronepsis's reign of terror gripped Varian. In the first three years alone, the Dreadwyrm unleashed unimaginable devastation across the continent. No living thing was spared from his bloodlust. Whispers of hopeless surrender spread, with many seeking to align themselves with the obsidian omen, hoping for mercy through servitude. Yet, Chronepsis saw through their cowardly deception. He took pleasure in mocking their desperate attempts to survive, offering false promises only to savor their agony as they were slowly tortured to death.Anathema
Though black dragons are often known for their cruelty and viciousness, Chronepsis was a creature beyond even those dark reputations. His escalating cruelty drew the attention of the Council of Wyrms, which deemed immediate action necessary. For nearly two years, Chronepsis turned his fury on the Council itself, wielding his mastery of the Sight to its fullest extent. But despite his strength and cunning, the greatwyrm was outnumbered. The combined might of the Council's forces overwhelmed him, and in 987 AC, the anomaly was slain, his body utterly obliterated.Malignant
After Chronepsis’s fall, fear gripped the people of not just Varian, but all of Azovar. Rumors swirled about the true extent of dragonkind's powers and their preternatural link to the Weave. The growing distrust was impossible to ignore, and the Council knew they had to act. Four years later, in a historic first, all fifteen members of the Council convened a summit with the rulers of Azovar. The gathering was meant to last a week, but three days in, tragedy struck—the avarial prince was found dead in his chambers, murdered. With hope of reconciliation shattered, tensions ignited into conflict. Soon after, the elves and avarial formally declared war, marking the beginning of the Skyscourge War.
