The Elemental War

"It wasn't a chasm formed by a rogue earthquake. It was a gash. A self-inflicted wound on this beautiful world we call our home. Now, it's festering spells our doom. And we have only ourselves to blame."

A high-casualty war that conscripted all of Azovar into battles against entities of the Elemental Planes. It is the single most catastrophic event in Azovar's history.

Planescar

Where one war ends, another begins. At the peak of the Skyscourge War, an unstable Planescar to the Elemental Chaos opened within the continent of Varian. It tore the continent apart while various land masses and arcane anomalies emerged from the several Elemental Planes. The Planescar remained open for only 3 days. However, too much of the Chaos had seeped in. In that time, entire sections of Varian were consumed and lost to the Elemental Chaos, while other remnants of the Elemental Planes took their place instead. Dangerous entities and elemental anomalies were running rampant all over the world. And so, temporary alliances were forged between many warring factions to achieve one goal: destroy the invading forces.

The Weight of Lives

After 10 long years, Azovar was finally safe from any immediate, world-threatening events from the Elemental Chaos. The world rejoiced but mourned heavily. The casualties were far beyond counting, and the destruction too apparent. Entire species were lost forever, and those that remained were left to rebuild from cinders.

Dawn of a New Age

Years later, what was left of Varian would be deemed uninhabitable by the peoples of Azovar. What now took its place was renamed "World's End," and categorized as a forbidden land. Rallying cries to outlaw magic and its sources began to emerge. From them, the Holy Praetoria was born. Shortly after, Azovar breathed the dawn of a new era, solemnly named "the Age of Regret."
