Sea Folk

The Sea Folk are nomadic tribes folk who spend much if not most of their life traveling up and down the coasts on their barges, trading goods and charging for their skills. They are a very colorful and eclectic people, with different traditions than those of Autara and other kingdoms. They are also very spiritual people with a vast knowledge of the stars and omens.   It is believed that the sea folk may be descendants of Bressian traders who moved to Autara to trade and have stayed ever since.   The Sea Folk are nomadic, traveling along the coasts and waterways of Autara and other kingdoms trading and bartering goods. Many Sea Folk have a trader's license that is passed down to their children when they pass or retire.   They live on sail-powered barges equipped for long voyages and housing families. These barges are normally painted brightly, a tradition of the sea folk. Each extended family, or clan, will have multiple boats that travel together in groups called fleets.   The sea folk dress similarly to Autarans, with clothing being made of similar or the same materials, but different enough that they can be picked out in a crowd. They tend to wear pants rather than any kind of skirt or robe. They wear tunics and overcoats, but nothing very long or loose. Their clothing also tends to be extremely colorful with lots of patterns and decorations, as well as wearing lots of shiny jewelry and accessories. They also wear boots or shoes.

Relationship with Magic

Some of them may develop magic but most don’t develop it, or their cores, past the basics with only a few developing it further. Those who do develop it more are taught to read the omens and the stars and how to protect things and people from danger.   While not all of them develop magic, magic users are highly valued and respected in sea folk culture.

Ethnic Phenotypes

Sea folk tend to have light brown to olive skin, often tanned to be darker from sun exposure, with dark hair in a variety of textures and dark eyes. They share many traits with Bressians and as such many people believe the two groups are somehow related.   The above traits are not always the case in sea folk families due to sea folk marrying people from other communities, causing more diversity in their offspring.
