Caldforge (Cald-forge)

A Dwarf's word is as stable as the stone he lives under.

The mountaintop Kingdom of Caldforge is nestled in the center of the Frostbone Mountains. Caldforge, and its connected underways serve as the only safe passage between Eastern and Western Pikas, a fact that Dwarven tollmasters love to exploit. While some Dwarves have chosen to make their home on the surface, usually in major cities where Dwarven craft is especially coveted, most Dwarves remain in their ancestral home in the heart of the mountain.    The Kingdom of Caldforge is perhaps the smallest on Pikas, given that it is essentially just the city itself and its connected outposts, however, it should not be underestimated. Dwarven crafts and technology is unmatched by anything on Pikas. Caldforge is considered the safest place on Pikas, and thus boasts both the largest bank and collection of priceless artifacts ever assembled.

Culture

The Dwarves of Caldforge are a hearty folk. Happy to host guests, yet rare to truly invest in surface dwellers. Most dwarves spend their days honing their craft at their various tradesmen guilds and spend their nights drinking around a roaring hearth with friends and family.   They are ruled over by the Forge-King, who is usually the most experienced living craftsman on the planet. When the Forge-King "returns to the stone", a great assembly is held attended by all the Old Houses of Caldforge. Then, candidates are presented for title, and engage in a competition of artisanal skill. Each candidate must forge their own crown. When finished, they are judged by the heads of each of the Old Houses, those who made the most worthy crown is declared the Forge-King. Those who lose the competition are usually selected advisors and ministers for the new Forge-King's court.

Religion

Religiously, as far as the Communion is concerned, the Dwarves practice a form of the Auld, although no Dwarf would ever associate with a word descended from Elven religion. The Dwarves practice ancestor worship. There are few, if any, formal rites or rituals for this religion, which is oriented around feasts for various days of birth and death for ancestors of the family.    The Communion has attended to establish a mission to the Dwarven people, and successfully established a Church on the surface-side of Caldforge, although it's evangelistic attempts have been met with staunch resistance. The Dwarves of Caldforge are as stubborn as they are dependable.
