Balthasar the Cruel Character in The World | World Anvil

Balthasar the Cruel

King Balthasar (a.k.a. The Last Goblin King)

Unlike the small bands of goblins you see these days, in the third age the goblins actually managed large kingdoms and Balthasar the Cruel was one of those kings. Most goblin kings where granted a strong nickname such as "Victor the Vicious" or "Gnarral the Murderous" but those names they got for the interactions with their enemies. Balthasar however got his name by how he treated his subjects. He was even rumored to have set an entire village on fire of goblins just because he wanted to.   When he became older he became paranoid and thought that the other kings where plotting to kill him, so he had them all assassinated leaving their countries to crumble without a strong leader to keep them in line. What he didn't anticipate however was that his own people would turn against him until they rose up and in the initial confusion he was stabbed multiple times by his friends and his most trusted advisors.
