Structure
The Pantheon is composed of countless deities, each having domain over a different aspect of reality (or nonreality), but the whole of the group is led by eight individual deities whose generalized domains encompass most every aspect of everyday life for their mortal worshippers.
Cosmological Views
When the universe was born, so were the gods. Each was given dominion over their own aspect of the universe. As new domains were created, such as agriculture, new gods were born. Today, there are thousands of gods, though many have little to no dedicated followers.
Priesthood
Every large city in Merterra has a temple to each of the eight main gods. Smaller cities and towns will often have temples to the gods that most affect their daily lives, such as a temple to Anati in an agricultural town. Some places will also have temples to smaller or less popular gods if they feel the need for their blessing on a regular basis. Each temple has a priest or priestess that guides followers and performs any necessary rituals.
Granted Divine Powers
Most followers, including priests and priestesses, will not be given power beyond basic blessings. This might look like a priestess of Lawlii being extra skilled at healing or a devout follower of Lisun experiencing very good luck in business. There are a special few, however, that stand out even to the gods. These are the clerics, people who have been blessed by their god with magical ability beyond the basic skills they may have been born with. Clerics are not common because the gods do not often interact directly with their followers, but they are not unheard of.
