Skill Checks & Saving Throws

Difficulty class

Determining the Dificulty Class for skill checks and saving throws is done via the following criteria. First the overall difficulty of the check is required to set a base. Then a slew of modifiers is applied to determine the acutal DC of that perticular roll.
Difficulty of Check DC
Very Easy Anyone can do this 5
Easy Anyone skilled can do this 8
Medium Anyone skilled can reliably do this 10
Tricky Anyone skilled has a 50/50 to do this 12
Hard Even skilled people can have difficulty doing this 15
Very Hard Specialization required to attempt this 20
Nearly Impossible Expertise required to attempt this 25
God Tear 30
Modifier Question Yes No
Does everyone in the party have to individually succeed on this check? -1 +1
Is the check essential for the plot to continue? -3 0
Are there multiple check involved for the task to succeed? -1 +1
Can the Check be attempted again? +1 -1
Does narrative framing make the action easier? Have the players described situations to their advantage? -2 0
Does narrative framing make the action harder. Are the PCs dealing with distinct disadvantages? 0 +2
Are multiple people helping on the same task -2 0
The number of the DC can be checked against the average skill modifier that a character is expected to have. If the number does not make any sense to deliver a good probability of succes, rethink if the check might need to be further modified.
Level Unskilled/not primary Skilled/not primary Skilled/primary Expertise/not primary Expertise/Primary
1 +0 +3 +5 +5 +7
5 +0 +4 +7 +7 +10
9 +0 +5 +9 +9 +13
13 +0 +6 +10 +11 +15
17 +0 +7 +11 +13 +17

Luck Checks

Luck checks are made when a sitiuation is completely detatched from the skill of a character. For example, when looking for a specific object and just opening any chest or cabinet in the room to find it without following a specific clue. These sitiuations call upon the luck of the character. A luck roll is a straight d20 roll. Some feature, or magic items provide a bonus to luck checks, but without these a character has a +0 modifier. The DC of luck checks are determined by the following table:
Difficulty of Check DC
Very Easy Likely to happen naturally 5
Easy Reliable to happen naturally 8
Medium Even chance to occur. 10
Tricky Unreliabe to occur. 12
Hard Unlikely to occur. 15
Very Hard Can only happen against all odds 20
Nearly Impossible Cannot occur naturally. 25
