The Embarkment

Produced by the Office of the Director
The Embarkment is the device that allows the archivists to do their work. Intricately linked to The Reality Engine, the Embarkment is a piece of mythotech that takes the form of a room with some type of entryway. However, unlike The Reality Engine the Embarkment not only affects the archive but the destination world. After the archive is transplanted into a new world, the Embarkment creates a physical link between the Archive and the host world that fits the format of the destination. For example, if the world is not technologically advanced, then the entryway may become a simple wooden door. If the destination is home to a planet spanning empire, the entryway may be a door in a spaceport. Interestingly, the fit goes both ways. On the destination side, the Embarkment creates a structure so the entryway does not look out of place. There is an instance where the Embarkment created an entire airship so that the entryway could be on said airship.   The Embarkment also serves a second purpose, which is to facilitate the recall of archivists. They can, at any time, walk back through the entryway and return to the archive. Note, this does not work for non-registered Archive personnel unless they are directly accompanied by an archivist. All Archive personnel and their Archival Devices are also registered with the Embarkment's systems (a complicated process Johannes Bruge can inform you more about). When an away team or off-site archivst wishes to return, they can use their device to trigger a recall to return to the Embarkment. When this process is used, the Archivist can designate a small set of items on their person that returns with them. This set is quite small, and unless the item itself is registered with the Embarkment, anything larger than the person themselves usually cannot return with them. Archivists are of course searched on return to ensure they are not bringing illicit materials or dangerous substances back to the Archive. When the Archive prepares to leave a world, the Embarkment triggers a full recall. This process returns any off-site archivists to the Embarkment and any registered items. This does occasionally cause some issues, most notably if an archivist is wearing clothing that matches the host world, a full recall would not bring the clothing with the archivist, leading to a very awkward situation. As a result, we ask all off-world archivists to return of their own volition. This does also prevent advanced technology from leaking from the Archive into the host worlds, thus keeping interference to a minimum. The Embarkment has many additional features, such as methods for bringing large physical items through for the archives, which can be found in various other entries.
