Witch hunter

There is much debate in the supernatural world as to whether witch hunters are a species or organisation, or even whether they exist at all. Those who have met witch hunters, though, regard them as a type of species because of the compulsion they carry to hunt - it is not a choice, it is an ingrained trait. Upon the discovery of the magical world, a witch hunter has no more choice to hunt than a witch does to have powers.

History

No one truly knows the origin of witch hunters, however there are two main theories.
The first theory is that the original witch hunter was a mortal man who suffered some great harm at the hands of witches, and in his pain and grief swore a sacred oath to some long forgotten god that neither he nor his sons would rest until they had wiped witches from the planet, and ever since this oath has bound his descendants to the same cause.
The second theory is that witch hunters were first created during the First Witch-Vampire War. Some have claimed that a vampire, in an effort to gain advantage against witches in the war, laid a powerful compulsion on a mortal man, and that this compulsion has been carried on by his descendants. This theory, however, relies on the assumption that the vampire who cast the compulsion is still alive.
