Vampire

Creatures of the night, vampires have existed in secret for centuries, and are functionally immortal. The only ways to kill a vampire are to decapitate it or to burn it alive. Killing a vampire will kill all vampires descended from it, which makes most vampires obedient and protective of their makers, and also means that the original vampire is still alive somewhere in the world. Vampires are naturally stronger and faster than humans, but not to a degree that could be classified as 'super strong' or 'super fast.'   Vampires can also compel humans into doing their will. Compulsion gives the vampires complete and total control over the human's mind. This compulsion requires close-up eye contact, and is how most vampires feed - they compel their victim into letting them feed, and then to forget the feeding. The other various supernatural species cannot be compelled. Vampires also benefit from almost instantaneous regenerative healing. And, contrary to popular belief and myth, vampires are not killed or repelled by stakes, crosses, garlic, or holy water, however sunlight will kill a vampire.   Witch blood is poisonous to vampires, but vampires have a natural immunity against witch spells (but not to their elemental powers).

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Vampires reproduce via blood transfusion. The vampire must drain all of the human's blood, then feed the human vampire blood. The transition is sealed when the newly turned vampire drinks the blood of a human - if they refuse to drink, they will desiccate and die.

Growth Rate & Stages

Once a vampire is turned, it will cease to age.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Vampires feed on blood. Typically, this will be fresh human blood from donors willing or unwilling, however some vampires have learned to feed on animal blood, though this leaves them weaker than their human-feeding counterparts. Most vampires will feed on blood bags from hospitals and donation centres. Vampires must drink blood to live. If it does not feed, it will desiccate into a corpse until it can feed. They must feed regularly, at least once a week, but rarely have to drain a human of blood entirely. By feeding regularly they can take less blood from their victim - the longer a vampire waits to feed, the more blood it will need to drain, which often results in the complete exsanguination of its human victim.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Though the majority of vampires are solitary creatures, some vampires choose to live in groups known as Colonies. Colonies are ruled over by a vampire king or queen, from whom the rest of the colony descend. Colonies usually only occur when a vampire forces a sire-bond over its progeny, forcing them to live with and serve him/her.

Civilization and Culture

History

The original vampire was a man who was a Romanian witch's lover. In the year 882, the man killed his lover by exsanguinating her. This betrayal of the witch and the absorption of her magic through blood began his transformation into a vampire. The witch's blood turned out to be toxic to the man, and he died during the transformation. However, once it was fully transformed into a human, it woke again and became 'undead'.
