For as long as Iris Faber can remember, all she's wanted to do is make art. She'd grown up surrounded by her mother's art books and framed oil paintings and her father's instruments and sheet music. She'd seen the beauty in the world around her and she wanted to recreate it in the things she made. She wanted to make the arts her entire life. Unfortunately, as far as Iris's parents were concerned, being an artist doesn't exactly bring in the big bucks. Despite all the art and music supplies they owned, there was a reason why her mother and father worked as a secretary and an air conditioning repairman, respectively. All their attempts to make it big in the arts ended up being for naught, and they spent years picking up the pieces and trying to regain financial stability. At the end of the day, they only want their daughter to have a good future.

Regardless of their intentions, however, Iris has only ever seen their dissuasions of her passion as a sign that they don't think she's good enough to cut it in the art field. This came to a head when an opportunity for an art scholarship at Miskatonic University led to a huge argument with her parents that ended with a sketchbook accidently knocked into a dishwater-filled sink and Iris storming out of the house. While she was out cooling her head, Iris came upon a young witch named Anja in the process of creating magic graffiti. After recovering from the initial shock of realizing magic was real, Iris struck up a friendship with Anja and Anja started teaching her how to do magic. Before long, magic became just another medium for Iris to create masterpieces in.

Things still remained chilly between her and her parents after that night, and the more time Iris spent on art and magic, the less inclined she felt to try and make amends with them.  When the time came and she ended up earning the scholarship that started their fight in the first place, all she could think about was how glad she was to get away, and even though she'd miss Anja, she felt Miskatonic would be her best chance at kickstarting her art career.  Little does Iris know that there's more to the world of magic that Anja let on, and managing it will end up becoming the world's most mind-bending group project for her.
