Liquid Electrum is cold to the touch. It is highly mutagenic and reactive to arcane and heat based energy sources. If treated poorly it can cause large explosions.

Liquid Electrum is found either deep within a planets crust or inside asteroids.

History & Usage

History

Liquid Electrum first saw use as a component in several Arcane Rituals and spells. However with the advent of Arcane Technology its use diversified almost over night.

Everyday use

Liquid Electrum is used as a power source in most arcane devices. Its most important use is within the engins of spelljammers where it us used as a fuel source.

Refinement

Mined Liquid Electrum is rarely pure, so it is often refined by melting, separation and filtering.

Hazards

Liquid Electrum can be very reactive. If too much of an arcane charge is ran back through the liquid it can react explosively.
It similarly reacts if exposed to fire or the burning gas of the Phlogiston, and thus must be contained in specialised containers upon any given ship.
People who make unprotected contact with liquid electrum can have a variety of reactions. Some time little more than burns akin to ice burn. However it has also been linked to wild and dangerous mutations, psionic powers and wild or dead magic.

Environmental Impact

The Gematan Dragonkin home world of  Gemata had a high concentration of Liquid Electrum within its upper crust. Due to this, Psionic powers are a common feature of most life upon that world. 
Where industrial disasters have occurred involving Liquid Electrum, settlements close to the site of the disaster will offten report an increase in the birth of psionics and wild magic gifted children.

Reusability & Recycling

Liquid Elecrum can be recharged and reused. However this involves the liquid being exposed to the natural arcane energy of a star for 1000 years. This is prohibitive to long term reuse, but some businesses and suppliers are in the business. Recharged Liquid electrum seems to be about half the potency of freshly mined sources, and this diminishing return means that long term use is unlikely to be maintained.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Liquid electrum is traded in most inhabited Spheres. Some illicit pirate traders do exist, often selling recharged or impure samples.

Storage

Liquid Electrum is either contained in lead shielded metal tanks or enchanted glass canisters.

Law & Regulation

The Wayward Council Heavily regulates the trade, keeping lists of all mining and trading.
