Edon

An illustrative depiction of a conjectured "pure" inonic catalyst, conceptualized in alignment with the theoretical framework positing Ilara's star, Elun, as a foundational wellspring of Edonic material.
Edon is the scientific terminology used to describe the energy and material which infuses all known realms and on which all known magic systems are based.

Terminology

The terminology "Edon" is predominantly employed within distinct scholarly communities, particularly in geographical areas where there is a notable prevalence of Edonite cultural influence. Most who refer to elements of Edon use terminology specific to the culture and type of Edonic practice being utilized and described.   There are three known classes of Edon:   Biological/Innate Edon (Bidon): Biological or innate Edon (Bidon) refers to the presence of naturally occurring Edon within a biological organism. Bidonic organisms exhibit variability between species, with certain clades displaying high levels of Edon throughout their populations, while others, such as humans, possess only a limited number of individuals which can be classified as Bidonic. Typically Bidonic specimens can only utilize a singular aspect of Edon, though there are exceptions amongst individuals (especially amongst human populations.)   Inorganic/Inanimate Edon (Inon): Inorganic or inanimate Edon (Inon), delineates the existence of contained Edon within non-living catalysts. Inonic substances and objects manifest in various configurations, often characterized by a crystalline structure (though not always), the etiology of which remains elusive. Inonic entities typically harbor exceedingly elevated levels of Edon and are notably scarce in natural environments. Examples of naturally occuring Inonic objects are [REDACTED] and [REDACTED]. Examples of artifical Inonic objects are Dragon Stones (Placeholder Name.)   Unconstrained/Free Edon: (Unon): Unconstrained or free Edon (Unon) denotes Edon that lacks confinement to any particular trait or attribute of Edonic influence. Unons possess the capacity to be harnessed by all catalysts, encompassing both Bidonic and Inonic entities, for diverse purposes, contingent upon the inherent capabilities and characteristics of the catalysts themselves.

Nature of Edon

Like all forms of energy, Edon adheres to the principles delineated by the Laws of Thermodynamics. Consequently, once an Edonic reaction commences, it promptly taps into the extant reservoir of Edon contained within a catalyst. When the quantity of Edon within a catalyst diminishes to a predefined threshold, termed the "Modicum," the remaining Edon begins to draw supplementary energy from alternative sources. An illustrative instance of this phenomenon involves Hi'Kon flamewielders, who harness the excess body heat generated by their metabolic processes to sustain the flames they manipulate. However, this process exacts a substantial toll on energy resources and may culminate in deleterious consequences such as hypothermia and potential fatality if perpetuated unchecked.   Most Edonic methodologies leverage Edon not as a direct energy source but rather as a means to instigate and regulate their respective "magical" practices. Consequently, the majority of bidonic catalysts incorporating Edon integrate supplementary systems—whether symbiotic, biological, or material—in tandem with Edon to sustain their operational efficacy.   Edon, particularly unonic particles, exhibit a proclivity towards attaining equilibrium, thus manifesting an affinity for gaseous and fluid substrates to serve as catalysts for their interactions. Various hypothesized sources of Edonic particles, commonly referred to as edonic wells, have been proposed, with notable contenders including the planetary core of Ilara and its yellow dwarf star. Despite these proposed primordial origin points, the dearth of bidonic diversity—both in contemporary observations and within the fossil record—remains a puzzling enigma relative to the abundance of Edonic matter present on the planet. Some scholars have suggested this scarcity to be a mere consequence of rare evolutionary mutation (one that appears to be particularly convergent amongst species) with other, more religious, academics claiming it to be the byproduct of any number of gods.
