Wood Elf

Wood elves are believed to be the oldest subrace of elves and the people from which the rest of the elven kind branched off. Intuitive and protective of their homes, they and their elven Houses oversaw southern Eren and later set the stage for elves to become a widespread people. Physically, elves are very similar in body shape to humans, features like the long, leaf-shaped ears being one of the distinguishing features for all elves. Visually, wood elves tend to be copperish in skin hue, while their hair tends toward browns and blacks, but it is occasionally red-colored. Some adorn their skin with face paints, and some tie beads and feathers into their hair. Their eyes are green, brown, or hazel.

History

The Wood Elves are a deeply connected and harmonious elven subrace that once thrived in the lush forests of Eren. Their communities were led by large tribal noble houses, which guided their people with wisdom and focused on maintaining balance in all aspects of life. Living off the land, the Wood Elves developed a profound respect for nature, believing in coexistence rather than domination. They practiced a way of life that emphasized sustainability, ensuring that their actions enriched rather than depleted the world around them. Masters of animal domestication formed strong bonds with the creatures of the forest, relying on them for companionship, labor, and protection. Additionally, the Wood Elves excelled in magical gardening and plant growth, wielding their innate magic to cultivate thriving groves and bountiful gardens. These enchanted landscapes were not only a source of sustenance but also a reflection of their deep connection to the natural world. Each tribal noble house played a role in preserving this harmony, often specializing in specific aspects of elven life, such as agriculture, hunting, healing, or magical innovation. The noble houses were seen as stewards of the land and guardians of the ancient traditions that defined Wood Elven culture. As towns and kingdoms began to grow throughout Eren, so too did wood elves disperse throughout the region, leading to them being such a prominent demographic in Eren even today.

Geography

Wood elves have spread their kind throughout much of Eren's western half. Staying relatively free of the Drekayan pride lands, they comprise many of the demographics in several communities along Eren's coastline and the remaining forests in Asur Misoa.

Relations & Society

Wood elves evolved within Eren, the earth region, and commonly live melted into large coastal communities or pastoral towns. In the south, they live in smaller communities among themselves and away from other races. They take up residency atop great tree homes, houses made of wood, and brush-covered roofs, blending in with the canopy of leaves that make up the forest ceiling. These communities are more true to the old-style elven townships that once existed heavily within the area now known as the Vale. Wood elves, just like dragonkin, have long lifespans, a facet that both races curiously connect a lot on, typically in how they view life, the world, and craftsmanship.

Elven Respite - Some elves do not require sleep in the traditional sense, supplementing their evenings with a form of meditation that recovers energy and focus just as well as sleeping. They can feel as well rested as if they slept a full night's rest of at least 8 hours within the span of four hours by taking four uninterrupted hours of this special trance-like meditation state.
Earthen Resistance - Some wood elves have innate magical defenses that emanate from their bodies thanks to their proximity to the earth gate, known for embodying tenacity. This can lead to resistance against certain forms of magical effects. This option could be anything from being resistant to one of the elements whilst a notable bit weaker against another, a resistance against magic that tries to control the mind or alter your thoughts, or spells that target a specific fact of your physical form a harder to affect you with.
One with Nature - When you harvest or pick vegetation like flowers or fungi, your innate nature magic can keep the plant from withering after being disconnected from it's host. As long as it is on your person, the specimen stays as fresh as when you picked it for up to seven days without nutrients.
