Unicorn

Unicorns are a beast-like race that consists of sapient folk with the bodies of both human and equine. They are most notable for the horn that grows from the crown of their heads, as well as their rather innate tendency towards the magical world. Unicorns are a unique and almost mythic species of beastkin. Few preserved documentations of their appearance exist in the world due to their status. However, all depictions tell of a Unicorn with a Horn located on the forehead. Used for casting spells and storing mana. Aside from their horn, many of the remaining depictions show Unicorns as having many different tails, colors, and some even having the lower half of a centaur, a likely byproduct of the unique spectrum nature of beastkins. The horn of Unicorns is a natural output of their spell casting properties. Unlike most living things that spread their mana evenly throughout their bodies. Unicorns store the majority of their mana in the horn. This is the reason why most Unicorns that have been documented have the horn as their magic output. It is wise not to damage a Unicorn’s horn, otherwise a risk of damaging its inner layer is present. If this inner layer gets damaged, it is possible for the horn to cease functioning. If a horn is ever exposed, it needs to be sealed as soon as possible by any means.

History

The unicorns are an ancient race, along the likes of the wood elves and the dwarves who are believed to have lived amidst the land during histories early years. From even these archaiac times, they lived in tandem with the magical essence that imbued the Great Forest, the place they called home. They are believed to be one of the first species to begin to understand the arts of arcane spellcasting, possessing the ability to cast spells to great effect. They lived a life in splendor, adapted perfectly to life in the great forest. But over a millennia ago, a great fire befell the forest, stoked by the dragons of Eldra's Black Dragonhorde. As the dragons attempted to conquer the Great Forest and it's denizens during the duration of The Great Burning the earth was enveloped in a ring of fire. Many Unicorns died that day. There were a paltry and scattered collection of unicorn denizens that remained, kept alive only by sheer luck and the utilization of any and all of their magical abilities to stave off destruction enough for them to flee the flaming forest. They crawled out of a Scorched world, the once tall trees now staining the earth in a charcoal black. spread from the south of Eren, hoping to find a new home far and wide, but as the years passed, they only encountered hardships along their journeys. During a period known simply as The Hunts, unicorns were driven to what was believed to be true extinction, their numbers so small that both their kind and culture fell into obscurity over centuries. Today unicrons have inadvertently fallen into mythos, any who remain alive living legends of a race long scorned and deposed.

Geography

Unicorns hail originally from the Great Forest in Eren. This huge expanse of forest played host to several small but tightly knit communities of unicorn kind, mainly centered in areas of high magical concentration which held both proctical and cultural signifigance to them. After the Great Burning and their eventual flying from the south of Eren, they thereafter found themselves scattered throughout Eren wherever they could find sanctum.

Relations & Society

Unicorns lived generally harmonious lives alongside the other denizens of the Great Forest, especially the kitsune and wood elves of which they lived amidst in antiquity. Unicorns were known for sharing knowledge of magic in trade with their neighbors and to this day are credited with developing some of the earliest styles of spellcasting in Eren's history, even though records of this fact only stem from scattered theories and research able to be found from before the forest fires. In current time, due to the status of being hunted in the past and of such small numbers, most documented unicorns willingly avoid contact with other races, this makes it difficult to understand the full story of their remaining culture. They most likely live a solitary and nomadic lifestyle, with few unicorns having been documented to be in a group, let alone with other race’s.
