The Water Guardian

The Water Guardian is a mysterious figure, yet one who's presence and legends precede them. Typically characterized as having some sort of alluring, feminine humanoid form, The Water Guardian, within Sunese folklore is known as "Nerimei." She is often depicted in both literature and art as having skin in any shade of blue, with very long hair that floats almost ethereally through the water as she navigates the open ocean. Her hair too varies widely from depiction to depiction. Her size has had conflicting reports from those who have claimed to see instances of her, some saying she was around the size of a human woman, whilst other swear that they encountered a woman around the size of a whale elegantly and slowly gliding in the murk of the deep. Some modern scholars nowadays purport that Nerimei herself might have the ability to shapeshift in some large capacity, doing so to some kind of end whether it'd to be to cloak her form or perhaps to purposefully trick those observers who catch a rare glimpse of her. Nerimei both in stories and mythos is said to commend balance, but exist as an agent of swift and unpredictable judgement. Stories across history tell of her advocating respect for the sea and it's denizens. Just as well are many tales of rogue waves crushing seaside fortresses, the perilousness of the sea, and the control she has over it's waters. Her wrath swallowing up overzealous men make up many folkloric stories in Sunese culture.
Unlike many of the Guardians, Nerimei is heavily integrated into moon elven and seafolk art and song and is just as much a figure of folklore as she is a venerated protector.
