The Ice Guardian

The duty of protecting the frozen gate to the Ice Realm is a position that was held by a humanoid spirit of considerable power, simply referred to as The Frostmaiden. But this spirit does not work alone. For over a three millennia, she has anointed a champion of sorts to stand vigil at her side. This champion, once sworn to the duty, is bestowed a portion of the Frostmaiden's power, transforming them both physically and magically in varying ways. In sharing the Frostmaiden's powers, this champion is able to serve as a mortal guardian to the Gate itself. For centuries this position has been held by the sovereign of Eiri's capital, the Queen of the land Isalryn. Despite her elven longevity, even the bounds of the elven lifespan show upon this frost blue woman's eerie form. Known for being a cold, resolute, and tenacious ruler and warrior, Queen Isalryn embodies the harsh and unforgiving wrath of the frozen north she holds dominion over. Many believe it is traits like these that got her bestowed the Frost Maiden's favor in the first place, but such traits are neccessary by all to survive in Eiri and its climate, so surely some other mysterious reason exists...

The Frostmaiden is a harsh mistress to serve under. She demands total dedication to the position as Guardian. The position is one of little glory, and the Maiden belays no praise.
